WB 6th November 2017

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had an exciting fireworks weekend. The homework and news is as follows:

Homework

Our spelling rule this week is ss (as is mess) and zz (as in jazz). We have discussed the difference between these sounds and that we tend to only find these sounds in the middle or end of a word.

Reading books have been issued again this week. Please if you are able, continue to discuss what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. We have been doing this in class and I am impressed with the conversations that we have been having.

Maths- last week in maths we looked at subtracting using a number line. The homework will give them a little bit more practice, as it can be quite tricky!

News

The children have been enjoying the beginning of our Stick Man topic. Last week, we created our own stick people and on Friday we created our wall display. I was so impressed with how hard the children worked. We will continue to look at Julia Donaldson books throughout this term.

Thank you for your continued support.

New wordwalls out this week.  Words to learn are highlighted green but feel free to do more if your child wishes to.

Maths – This week our homework is looking at missing number sums.  For example  – 5 + ? = 10.  or ? +2 = 6.  These are quite tricky but the children have been working very hard.

Have a great week.

Wk beg 6th November – homework and updates

I hope you have enjoyed your weekend – I look forward to hearing all about it at check in tomorrow. Please see below for homework, news and class updates.

Homework

Spelling – This week our sounds are ‘ss’ and ‘zz’. We will be looking at words like ‘class’ and ‘buzz’ and discussing the difference between the sounds. There will also be common words to learn.

Reading – Reading books will be issued again this week. Please if you are able, continue to discuss what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. We have been doing this in class and I have been very impressed with the quality of discussion surrounding the stories we have been reading.

Maths homework this week will be looking at doubles. These are part of our Big Maths calculations. It will also help children with our topic of subtraction as we continue to learn different methods to ‘take away’.

News

Stickman has been a great source of conversation in class and the children continue to impress and inspire me with their creations and thoughts. Please see above for pictures of our individual Stickmen and Stick Lady Loves. This week we will begin to look at vocabulary to describe the characters in the book and will consider how the feelings of a character may change over the course of the story.  Thank you to those who were able to bring in wellies/older shoes –  the children are enjoying the opportunity to be outdoors so often.

Our focus on Julia Donaldson books continues and I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to/supporting children during reading. All children will be offered the opportunity to read/have their story read – our class library is a popular place to be!

Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Our current topic is hockey and pupils are enjoying learning how to control, stop, dribble and pass. Hopefully we will soon be ready for a game!

Thank you for your support and enjoy the week ahead.

Stickman

Hello, I hope you have all had a wonderful week. We had a fantastic day today developing our knowledge of Stickman and his family. We looked at how to sequence a story and discussed why it’s important to put things in the right order. We also spent some time outside discussing the textures of different materials before heading back inside to design, create and build our own members of the stick family. Final display coming soon! Until then, have a look at our works in progress.

Have a great weekend and remember – stay safe on Bonfire Night! Miss Cauley

Happy Hallowe’en!

Good evening everyone, I hope you are having a suitably spooky night!

Our current language focus is acrostic poetry and today I was blown away by some of the outstanding poems written by P2C. You should all be very proud of yourselves – not only can you explain what an acrostic poem is, you can use your knowledge of vocabulary and your thoughts and ideas to create a piece of your own.

Here are just a small selection of the poems from today – I hope you enjoy reading them. Can you spot yours?

See you all tomorrow!

Miss Cauley

Week beginning 30th October

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Homework and news below:

Homework

Our spelling rule this week is ‘ff’, as in ‘toffee’ or ‘cliff’ and as always there are some common words to learn as well.

Maths homework is an ordering numbers to 20 worksheet. You may use this as a cut and stick exercise or I’m happy for the children to simply write in the numbers.

Reading books have been given out. I will be completing running records over the next couple of weeks to ensure your child is reading at the correct level.

News

We absolutely love our new Stickman topic and yesterday we collected sticks to make our very own Stickman! This week we will create outfits for him/her and will read through the book.  We will also be looking at the beginning, middle and end of stories as part of our reading work. Talking about the beginning, middle and end of stories (books, tv shows, films, etc.) at home will help solidify the children’s understanding of story sequencing too.

Although it is cold, the weather remains reasonably dry and this term we hope to get outside as much as we can! I would be grateful if pupils could bring in a pair of wellies or older shoes (that are okay to get dirty) for class to use as and when is needed.   These can be taken home each week if necessary for weekend activities.

Thank you to everyone who has sent in boxes and all sorts of materials for our technology topic, it is greatly appreciated. Keep sending them in, the more the merrier!

Thank you for your continued support. I am very impressed with the class’ work ethic and enthusiasm.

Have a lovely week,

Miss Bachell/Mr Collins

Pupils have been bringing in Julia Donaldson books for the last week or so and it is wonderful! I will endeavour to read a story as often as possible and will also offer the children the opportunity to read to the class if they feel comfortable enough to do so.
