P2R wk beg 30th October

I hope you all had a great weekend.  Homework and news as follows:

Homework

Spelling  – This week our sound is ff as in cliff and cuff.  There will be 4 ff words and 4 common words to learn.

Reading – New reading books out on Monday.

Wordwalls continue.

Maths homework this week is looking at doubles.  There will be a sheet to complete and a computer game to play if possible.

News

Our new Stickman topic continues.  This week we will be looking at the beginning, middle and end of stories as part of our reading work.  We will also be creating our Stickman family for our wall display.

This term we hope to get outside as much as the weather allows for lots of different subjects.  As such I would be grateful if pupils could bring in a pair of wellingtons for the class to use as and when is needed.  (some children have wellingtons in class already so these are fine)Thank you in advance for this.  They can take them home each week if necessary for weekend activities.

Have a great week.

P2R Stickman Topic

Today we started our new topic.  We read part of the Stickman story and then went on a hunt for leaves and sticks.  We got a little muddy sorry!!! But we had lots of fun.  We then made and decorated our own Stickman, Lady stick love or children.  We were very pleased with the finished pieces.

Kes Gray Author Live

We are currently enjoying watching Kes Gray as part of the Scottish Book Trust’s Author’s Live Events. Everyone is fully engaged and you could hear a pin drop in here – apart from when we burst into roars of laughter!

Look out for his books in the library and add them to the First Minister’s Challenge Passport

Bishopton Rocks!

The P2 masterclass have been getting in on the new Renfrewshire craze by painting and decorating rocks which they are going to leave around the village. They decided on a Minion and Monsters theme and they are amazing! If you find one of their Bishopton Rocks around the village, it is yours to keep! It would be great if you could bring it in to school to let us know. If you have a Twitter account, post a photo of it. Please tag us using @BishoptonPS. It will be great to see who ends up with these marvellous creations.

Week Beginning 23rd October

Good morning,

It was great to see everyone back in good spirits after a well deserved break. It sounded like everyone had a great week off.

Homework

Spelling

This week we will be looking at short vowel sounds.  We will go over the vowels and practise some words that have the short vowel sound (words that use the letter sound rather than letter name)  For example cat, let, bit, lot, cut.  The words will be quite straightforward this week but the children should also be able to name the vowels by the end of the week. This video should help the children remember their vowel sounds.

Maths

This week the children will have pattern homework.  This is looking at colours, shapes and basic number pattern.   This has been covered in class.  This will be issued on Monday and collected in on Friday so can be completed on night that is suitable for you.

Reading

New reading books will be issued this week. This term we will be focusing on how to construct sentences and also on sequencing. Both of these things can be included in any book discussions at home.

News

We will be starting our new Stickman topic this week.  We will be completing lots of literacy work around this story and also looking at other Julia Donaldson stories.  The children can bring in any books they own written by this author.  Please remember to write your name on the inside cover so that we can return these books to the correct owners.

This term, P2B will be creating new, and improved, lunchboxes for Mr Grinling (The Lighthouse Keeper). To help with this, we would be grateful if you could send in any empty shoe boxes, cereal boxes and any other materials our lunchbox designers think they need for their design. Thank you in advance!

Have a pleasant rest of the week.

W/B 23rd October – Welcome Back!

Good evening everyone – welcome back! I hope you, your family and your friends have enjoyed a wonderful October holiday.

Homework and news is below:

Homework

Spelling – This week we will be looking at short vowel sounds; homework will be issued on Tuesday.  We will go over the vowels and practise some words that have the short vowel sound (words that use the letter sound rather than letter name)  For example cat, let, bit, lot, cut.  The words will be quite straightforward this week but the children should also be able to name the vowels by the end of the week.

Reading – reading books have been issued today. Please read a little each night.  This term we will be focusing on how to construct sentences and also on sequencing. Both of these things can be included in any book discussions at home.

Wordwalls continue to be checked during class and will be changed over the coming weeks. Children are working hard to try and include common words within their writing.

Maths – In class we will continue to focus on place value. Homework this week is to trace and copy the wording for the numbers 11 – 20. This will be issued on Tuesday and will not be collected until Friday.

News

As it is a new term the children will have new base seats in class. We participate in a lot of group work and this allows pupils the opportunity to socialise and work with a variety of their peers.

Rather than show and tell, this term we will have check in at the beginning of the week. This allows children the opportunity to share their news by means of discussion and description. We completed our first check in today and I was very impressed by the level of respect shown by the children to their peers.

We will also be starting our new Stickman topic this week.  We will be completing lots of literacy work around this story and also looking at other Julia Donaldson stories.  The children can bring in any books they own written by this author – please remember to label your books so I can ensure they return to the correct home at the end of the topic.

Thank you for your continued support and have a lovely week!
