Wk beg 6th November – homework and updates

I hope you have enjoyed your weekend – I look forward to hearing all about it at check in tomorrow. Please see below for homework, news and class updates.

Homework

Spelling – This week our sounds are ‘ss’ and ‘zz’. We will be looking at words like ‘class’ and ‘buzz’ and discussing the difference between the sounds. There will also be common words to learn.

Reading – Reading books will be issued again this week. Please if you are able, continue to discuss what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. We have been doing this in class and I have been very impressed with the quality of discussion surrounding the stories we have been reading.

Maths homework this week will be looking at doubles. These are part of our Big Maths calculations. It will also help children with our topic of subtraction as we continue to learn different methods to ‘take away’.

News

Stickman has been a great source of conversation in class and the children continue to impress and inspire me with their creations and thoughts. Please see above for pictures of our individual Stickmen and Stick Lady Loves. This week we will begin to look at vocabulary to describe the characters in the book and will consider how the feelings of a character may change over the course of the story.  Thank you to those who were able to bring in wellies/older shoes –  the children are enjoying the opportunity to be outdoors so often.

Our focus on Julia Donaldson books continues and I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to/supporting children during reading. All children will be offered the opportunity to read/have their story read – our class library is a popular place to be!

Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Our current topic is hockey and pupils are enjoying learning how to control, stop, dribble and pass. Hopefully we will soon be ready for a game!

Thank you for your support and enjoy the week ahead.
