Good evening, I hope you have all enjoyed the sunny weather this weekend! Please see below for homework and class news.

Spelling: This week, our sound is ‘ow’ as in ‘cow’ ‘now’ ‘town’ etc.  Weekly spelling will no longer contain common words as we look to ensure that your child is comfortable using all the sounds we have learned so far in Primary 2.  At parent’s night you will receive a personalised copy of the first 100 common words with highlighted focus words for your child. We will continue to work on these words in class.

Maths: Homework this week will be counting in 3s. We have been practising this in class and it is helping us prepare for learning the 3 times table.

Reading: Reading books will be handed out tomorrow as normal and collected in again on Thursday. There will be no read and munch this week.

News

Thank you so much to everyone who has returned their Parents Night slip – I will see you all this week.

Trip: We can’t wait to go on our trip to Calderglen! Thank you very much to everyone that volunteered to help out – it is much appreciated – we now have some helpers for the day. Letters have been issued about the trip – if your child requires a school packed lunch, please return the slip by next Friday as orders must be placed by the kitchen.

Sports Day: Your child was issued with a letter last week regarding the format of Sports Day. We are in need of 2 parent helpers to walk with our class to the ROF field. We will be leaving around 10.45 (just at the end of break time). Please let me know if you can help.

Recycled items: Thank you so much for all the recycled jars, boxes, tubes and bottles we have received so far! Please keep them coming – we are most appreciative!

At parent’s night you will receive a copy of the first 100 common words and the words your child can practice more will be highlighted and any they haven’t covered can be learned in class.

Maths: Homework this week will be adding in tens. The children were practicing this last week in class and did a great job.

News

As I’m sure you’ve heard, we are lucky enough to be going on another school trip! Letters have been sent home with details and a slip to return. Please let me know via the slip if your child requires a school packed lunch on the day. I will also contact those who have offered their assistance on the day via their child’s diary.

A letter was handed out to those who are attending Tuesday’s parents evening. My deepest apologies that I cannot attend. Mr Collins is kindly taking my place and you will each receive a short letter from myself along with your child’s common words list. However, I am looking forward to seeing those attending on the Wednesday.

Remember, this week is a shorter week. We finish on Thursday and return next Tuesday.

Have a lovely week, and thanks for all your continued support.

Wh Beg 07.05.18

Morning everyone, I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and a good start to the week. Please see below for class news and updates.

Homework

Spelling: There will be no formal spelling homework this week.  Children have been completing common words spelling quizzes in class and after all 100 words have been completed a sheet will be issued to each child highlighting words which they should keep working on. We will continue to focus on these words in class.

Reading: Reading books were issued yesterday. Please encourage your child to use the best storyteller voice they can – I have been hearing some super reading in class over the last few months.

Maths: There will be no written maths homework this week. Children have been focusing on counting in 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s as well as continuing to learn strategies to double and half numbers. If you are able, ask your child to show you how to double or half a number.

News

Parent’s night slips have been handed out. Thank you for returning these promptly. You should receive your day and time next week.

Our read and munch this week will be on Thursday. Please remember that it is a healthy snack that the children can bring for this.

Thanks and have a great week,

Miss Cauley

Week Beginning 8th May

Good morning, I hope you all had a lovely weekend in the sun.

Homework

There will be no formal spelling homework this week. Instead, I will be quizzing the children’s knowledge of their common words. Once I have quizzed them on the first 100 words, they will be given a sheet home, showing which words they can spell and which they need to work on. This is to give them enough time over the rest of term to practice their tricky words for moving up to primary 3. Some children will have some highlighted words to focus on.

Reading books will be handed out as normal. From now on, children may keep their reading books over the weekend and return them on Monday. This gives them enough time to read their book and to discuss it with someone at home. I have been impressed by the quality of the reading I have been hearing over the last few weeks.

Maths homework will be a continuation of halves and quarters. Children must shade either 1 half or 1 quarter of the given shapes.

News

Parent’s night slips have been handed out. Thank you for returning these promptly. You should receive your day and time next week.

We will continue to have read and munch on Friday afternoons. Please remember that it is a healthy snack that the children can bring for this.

Thanks for all of your support and have a lovely rest of the week.
