Good evening, I hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend sunshine.  Homework and news for this week as follows:

Homework

Spelling – Spelling activities continue this week.  We are also completing spelling quizzes in class looking at the first 100 common words.  Over the next couple of weeks you will receive a highlighted list of words for your child to practise before the end of term.

Reading – We will be giving out our core readers this week.  I will continue to complete running records this week and next week to assess current reading levels.

Maths – This week will be number bond practise.  The children can use this link to the Hit the Button game:

News

Sports day

Sports day will take place on Wednesday 30th May this week.  Pupils should wear their house colours to school.  Parents are invited to watch our traditional races down at the ROF field.  Primary 2 will be on the ROF field between 11 and 12 o clock.  The weather is forcast to be a lovely day so please ensure your child has sunscreen applied in the morning and a sun hat etc if needed.

School Trip

Our school trip to Calderglen Country Park will be next Tuesday 5th June.  If your child requires a school packed lunch for this trip, please let me know by Friday this week if possible.

It was a pleasure to meet with you all to discuss your children’s progress  last week.  Thank you for attending and as always thank you for all of your support this year.

Good evening.  I hope everyone enjoyed the lovely weather over the weekend.  Homework and news as follows:

Homework

Spelling – This week we will continue to work on ow words and the tricky words from last week.  Our spelling quiz will be this Friday.  The children do not need to complete any activities other than revising these words for Friday.  They can play this game for extra revision of sounds.

Reading – This week we move on to Big cats books.  These can be slightly trickier than the core readers.  These can be read together.  Please help children sound out any tricky words.

Wordwalls – New wordwalls will be out on Monday 14th May.

Maths – This week our homework will look at 1/2s and 1/4s of different numbers.  Please feel free to use concrete materials to help children divide the amounts into 1/2s  (2 equal piles) or 1/4s (4 equal piles).

News

Read and munch continues with the P4 class this Friday.  Pupils can bring in a story of their choice and a healthy snack.

Parent night time requests went out last week.  If you didn’t receive one,  please pop a note in the diary to  say whether you would prefer Tuesday 22nd May between 6pm and 9pm or Wednesday 23rd May between 3:30pm – 6:00pm.

Parent night appointment letters will be given out on Monday 14th May.

Homework

Spelling sound this week is ea as in sea, tea, and peach.

New reading books out on Monday.

Wordwalls will be heard on Thursday of this week.

Maths – This week we will be looking at o’clock and half past times.  Sumdog National contest.

“Oor Grandparents homework” to be completed by Monday 26th March.

News

We had a great week last week learning our times.  We looked at o’clock and half past and the digital ways to write these.   Here are a couple of games to play at home.

On Friday of this week we have a visiting parent Mr Rousseau coming in to teach us about France.  He is also going to teach us some new French words.  We can’t wait.

The National sumdog contest has started.  If your child has time it would be great if they could play some games during this week as part of their homework.

Lastly, a reminder that our open afternoon is still scheduled for Tuesday 27th March at 2pm.

I hope you have all enjoyed your holiday weekend.

No formal homework this week with all homework starting back next Monday.   Children can practise some of the Maths games we have been playing in class, play board games and read for enjoyment at home.

Spelling this week will be a revision of some of our common words.

Reading – Big cats continue this week.

Maths – This week our Maths homework is looking at our number bonds.  In class we do a Big Maths quiz each week in 30 seconds.  This is extra practise for that quiz.   The children try to beat their own score each week.

News

Friday 9th February this week is an Inservice day for teachers so the children are off school.  Please spread the homework over the 3 nights and we will do our small spelling quiz on Thursday.

On Tuesday we will be doing some papier mache in class.  If anyone has any old newspapers they could spare we would be most grateful.

Last week we started our gymnastic block in P.e.  The children loved working on their skills and using the gymnastic spring board,  box and wall bars.

P2R news

This week I heard all of the children reciting their Scottish poetry.  They were all wonderful.  Well done to our children who recited in class and visited other classes also.  We had 3 finalists with one overall class winner.  Our class winner will perform their Scottish poem in front of the school next Friday the 2nd of February.  Well done to everyone.  Pictures to follow.

We recovered our lost navy skirt this week.  We are now looking for a navy blue sweater.  This has a child’s name on it and would be grateful if everyone could have a look for this jumper at home.  Thank you in advance.

Homework

Spelling – This weeks magic e sound is i_e as in kite, bite , fine.

Reading books  -Big cats continue this week.

Wordwalls – All wordwalls were heard on Thursday and new ones/ new highlighted words will be out this week.  I will check these again next Thursday.

Maths – This weeks Maths will be counting in 3s.

News

On Monday I will hear all of the Scottish poems and those wishing to participate in the school competition will be allowed to recite their poems to other classes.  A class winner will be chosen and they will represent our class at the Burns assembly in school.  I can’t wait to hear their poems.  We are also enjoying learning about Scottish traditions and learning some Scottish songs.  Here is the song we learned last week, the children loved it.

We also had a navy school skirt go missing at P.e time on Friday.  If anyone took it home by accident we would very much appreciate it if it could be sent back into school.  Thank you.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.  Homework and news as follows:

Homework

Spelling – This week our sound is magic e with a_e.  as in game, snake, cake, plate.  The children will be learning about magic e and using the letter name a in these words rather than the short vowel sound ah.  These are two  of the clips we will be watching to help explain this.

Reading – Big cat books will be issued this week.  These books can be fiction or non fiction books.

Wordwalls will be heard this week on Thursday.

Maths – This week our maths will be looking at subtraction sums.

Poetry –  Last week we gave out some poem options to learn.  The children will be heard on Monday 22nd January in class reciting their choice of poem.  They can choose a different poem if they wish as long as it is Scots.  Here is a website to choose alternative poems if you wish.

News

Last week we started our new Katie Morag topic.  This week we will working together to create our wall display.  If anyone has any Katie Morag books at home, it would great if the children could bring them in to share with the class.  We will be sending home our Julia Donaldson books this week.  Thank you to all who let their children send these in for our Stickman topic.

In class we have been talking about targets and things we would like to achieve.  This week your child will come home with a target booklet and they will show you their short term targets for Maths, Language and Health and Wellbeing.  This will be discussed and created with your child in class.  Feel free to add a home target in the parent/guardian box at the bottom of the page.  These targets will be looked at every couple of weeks to check how they are getting on.  The target booklets will be kept in their bookbags.
