P2: Engineering project – shoebox donations

Hello everyone!

Happy New Year to you all and I hope you have had a wonderful holiday break.

This term, all primary two classes will work on an engineering project. Children will collaborate in small groups to build a moving vehicle.

If you have any shoeboxes at home (lids must be able to be removed from the box), we would be happy to take them off your hands. We are also on the lookout for any old/unused CDs, DVDs or records.

If you would like to donate any of the above items, please send them into school with your child.

Thank you for your help – it is much appreciated!

Best,

Primary 2 teachers

Newspapers and magazines

Good morning,

I hope you’re all very well and have had a lovely weekend. We have been learning all about nouns in class and on Friday we will be creating our very own noun collages. These will help us to spot the difference between different types of nouns as well as to remind us what a noun is.

If you have any newspapers, comics or magazines in the house that you are finished with, could you please send them in to school with your child by Friday?

Thank you so much for your support with this,

Miss Cauley

P2F: Read and Munch

Good evening,

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. Just a quick note to advise that this term, Primary 2F will have their Read and Munch on a Friday. Children are welcome to bring a healthy snack to enjoy with their P5 reading buddy. Pupils are free to bring their own book from home or choose one from the class library.

We are looking forward to sharing our favourite stories with Primary 5 and talking about our likes, dislikes and puzzles!

Hello from Uganda

Hello everyone!

Hope you are are very well and having a super summer holiday. We have been in Uganda for ten days now and it is absolutely fantastic – what a wonderful experience.

I work with teachers at Kiyuya Primary and Nyambindo Primary and have been spending time in every stage, working with teachers on things they want to develop. There are lots of children in both schools but all very kind and friendly – much like all of you!

I have popped some photos below so you can see what its like in the Primary 1 class.

Will check in again – Miss Cauley 🙂

Our Last Day in P2C!

I can’t believe this is our last day in Primary 2C! It has come around so quickly this year – and what a wonderful year it has been. We have made so many fantastic memories as a class, gone on some wonderful trips and learned about so many different things. It has been a true joy to teach Primary 2C this year and get to know all of the children so well.

Thank you all very much for your invaluable support this year, your kind words and your very generous gifts. These will be used to support my interest in sustainable learning during my time in Africa this summer.

I hope you and your family have a fantastic summer and enjoy and make some great memories of your own.  Stay tuned  for some super pictures!

P2c – learning journey and bits and pieces

Hello everyone!

Just a short note to say that your child’s learning journey has now been sent to the provided email address. Please let me know if you do not receive it and I can send it to an alternative address.

The children performed fabulously today at their P2 assembly and should be very proud.

We have been listening to factfiles in class and they are absolutely fantastic. To see the children speak so openly about their love of animals and watch and listen to one another as they ask and answer questions is fantastic. They should be delighted with their efforts – I know I am extremely impressed!

Falcons – your own clothes day is on 22nd June.

And finally – thank you so much for your continued support of my upcoming summer in Africa. All children in Primary 2 have worked extremely hard to create games, run cafes, and hand out prizes. They displayed amazing team work, sportsmanship and business acumen during our sustainable Africa Day and I cannot thank them enough. Primary 2C – I have spoken to the schools I will be working with, and guess what? Your games are coming to Uganda! Perhaps we should trademark your ideas. 🙂

Have a great rest of your week and please see next week’s blog post for final class news.

Week Beg 11.06.18

Hello!

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend and have enjoyed some relaxation time. Please see below for class news and updates:

Spelling:

This week our sound is ‘nk’ as in think, drink and wink. Children have been creating some super new spelling words with their sounds in class. Please remember to practise common words, too. We are beginning to come across these more and more in our reading books.

Reading:

New reading books will be issued this week.

Maths:

We will be discussing the timing of events and activities in class this week. Instead of issuing a homework sheet regarding this, I will place a list of ideas below that you and your child can use to discuss the concept of time:

*Stand up when you think 5/10/30/60 seconds have passed – which are longer/shorter

*Set the timer on your tablet/watch/phone and measure how many minutes or seconds your favourite programme is on TV for. Does it have a break?

*How many star jumps/skips can you do in a minute?  Could you do more or less in 30 seconds?

News:

Class Assembly: Our class assembly is on Wednesday 20th June from 11am – 12noon. All children have been given their tickets. Please pop a note in the diary or let me know if there are any issues regarding this. Your child will receive their words in their book bag tomorrow. Please practise these as best you can – I’m sure the children will use their best storytelling voices 🙂

Africa Day: Primary 2 have been working very hard over the last week to design their own games made from sustainable materials – most of which I will have access to in Uganda. Thank you to all those who handed in jars, cardboard and anything else – they have been gratefully received! We will host the rest of the school on Tuesday 12th June as they try out our games in an attempt to win prizes!

If you would like to have a go on a game other than your own please remember to bring your donation.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support regarding this – I have been blown away by the children’s efforts in class and the donations that continue to come in.

Have a great week ahead and as always, thank you.

Miss Cauley

Week Beg 04.06.18

Evening everyone! I hope you have had lovely weekend. Please see below for homework, news and class updates.

Spelling – our sound this week is ‘or’ as in horse and for.

Reading – reading books will be given out this week. Read and munch will be on Thursday.

Maths – As we are nearing the end of Primary 2 I will begin to give out revision tasks as homework. These will focus on number work, tens and units amd a variety of topics we have covered across the year.

Factfile – for our last large piece of homework this term children should complete a factfile on an African animal of their choice. More information will come home tomorrow.

News:

Class trip: On Tuesday we will visit Calderglen Park as part of our topic on Africa. Children should wear their red Bishopton Primary polo shirt and their own choice of trousers/shorts/leggings. As the majority of the day will be outdoors and active, I would ask that all pupils please wear comfy clothing and shoes.

Packed lunches should be in plastic bags. We have worked so hard this term and cannot wait to see the animals and play some outdoor games!

Sustainable Africa Day: On June 12th we will host Sustainable Africa day across the Primary 2 classes. Pupils from P2C have designed their own games and, having spent some time this weekend road testing the protypes, I think we are in for a great day! If you have any used jam jars, cereal boxes or other cardboard or recycled products, please continue to send them our way!

Have a brilliant week and as always, thank you for your invaluable support!

Week Beg 28.05.18

Hello! I hope you have enjoyed your Bank Holiday weekend in the sunshine – what wonderful weather we have had! Please see below for class news and homework:

Reading: There will be no reading books given out this week. Instead, children should bring in a book of their choice from home that they are able to read some/all of independently and we will share these in class, both during ERIC time and read and munch time. If your child is unable to bring a book from home we have plenty of lovely stories in our library they can choose from.

Spelling: Our sound this week is ‘ou’ as in house, mouse, trousers.

Maths: There will be no written maths homework to complete this week. Instead children will be issued with a copy of the Big Maths Learn Its that they can practise at home. These do not need to be filled in and returned, they can be kept at home/in book bags for continual use. I will speak to pupils tomorrow about the kind of activities they can do to practise these.

Class News:

Sports Day: It’s time for Sports Day already! All being well weather wise, our Sports Day celebrations will take place on Wednesday. Please ensure your child has sunscreen applied in the morning and a sun hat if needed. The Primary 2 slot at the ROF field is between 11am and 12noon. Parents are invited to watch the traditional races during this time. We are still in need of a parent helper to help walk with our class to the field. If you’d like to help, please let me know at the door or pop a note in your child’s book bag.

Trip to Calderglen: Thank you so much for returning packed lunch slips/payment for the trip on Tuesday June 5th. Just a reminder that the cost of the trip is £4. Please let me know if the packed lunch form has been misplaced so I can issue you with another one.

It was lovely discussing your child’s progress with you at last week’s meetings. As always, thank you for your support this year and I hope you have a fabulous week ahead!
