Week Beg 21.05.18

Good evening, I hope you have all enjoyed the sunny weather this weekend! Please see below for homework and class news.

Spelling: This week, our sound is ‘ow’ as in ‘cow’ ‘now’ ‘town’ etc.  Weekly spelling will no longer contain common words as we look to ensure that your child is comfortable using all the sounds we have learned so far in Primary 2.  At parent’s night you will receive a personalised copy of the first 100 common words with highlighted focus words for your child. We will continue to work on these words in class.

Maths: Homework this week will be counting in 3s. We have been practising this in class and it is helping us prepare for learning the 3 times table.

Reading: Reading books will be handed out tomorrow as normal and collected in again on Thursday. There will be no read and munch this week.

News

Thank you so much to everyone who has returned their Parents Night slip – I will see you all this week.

Trip: We can’t wait to go on our trip to Calderglen! Thank you very much to everyone that volunteered to help out – it is much appreciated – we now have some helpers for the day. Letters have been issued about the trip – if your child requires a school packed lunch, please return the slip by next Friday as orders must be placed by the kitchen.

Sports Day: Your child was issued with a letter last week regarding the format of Sports Day. We are in need of 2 parent helpers to walk with our class to the ROF field. We will be leaving around 10.45 (just at the end of break time). Please let me know if you can help.

Recycled items: Thank you so much for all the recycled jars, boxes, tubes and bottles we have received so far! Please keep them coming – we are most appreciative!

Have a wonderful week and as always, thank you for your support.

Hello! I hope you’e had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the weather. Please see below for class news and updates.

Spelling: Our sound this week is ew as in jewel, flew and blew. There will be no common words given out this week as I am working to create a list of spelling words specific to your child.

Reading: Reading books have been issued. Super storytelling voices!

Maths: We have been doing a lot of mental maths work in class and homework this week is to compete in the Sumdog contest. I have been very impressed with childrens addition and subtraction skills, particularly their use of different vocabulary. Paper homework will resume next week.

Parents Night: Thank you for your return of parents night requests. Appointment times have now been issued and I have done my best to accomodate requests. Please let me know if there are any issues regarding your allocation.

Trip: As I’m sure you’ll have heard all about, we are heading to Calderglen Country Park on June 5th! A letter has been issued about trip cost and packed lunches. We will be looking for parent helpers to accompany us – if you are free please pop a note in your child’s diary and I’ll be in touch.

Uganda: I am thoroughly enjoying teaching the children about Africa and hearing their fabulous thoughts and ideas. We will soon be embarking on a Primary 2 enterprise and sustainability project and I am appealing for some material donations! If you have any tubes (eg Pringles or equivalent), larger tin cans or jam jars (I can clean these!) at home that you are finished with then please send them to school – we would be delighted to take them off your hands. All will be revealed in the coming weeks!

Thank you as always for your support and have a super week!

Morning everyone, I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and a good start to the week. Please see below for class news and updates.

Homework

Spelling: There will be no formal spelling homework this week.  Children have been completing common words spelling quizzes in class and after all 100 words have been completed a sheet will be issued to each child highlighting words which they should keep working on. We will continue to focus on these words in class.

Reading: Reading books were issued yesterday. Please encourage your child to use the best storyteller voice they can – I have been hearing some super reading in class over the last few months.

Maths: There will be no written maths homework this week. Children have been focusing on counting in 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s as well as continuing to learn strategies to double and half numbers. If you are able, ask your child to show you how to double or half a number.

News

Parent’s night slips have been handed out. Thank you for returning these promptly. You should receive your day and time next week.

Our read and munch this week will be on Thursday. Please remember that it is a healthy snack that the children can bring for this.

Reading books: New reading books with be handed out tomorrow. Please, if you are able, continue to discuss the book with your child and keep encouraging them to use their storyteller voice.

Just a reminder that pupils are off on Friday of this coming week and Monday (7th May) of next week.

Class news:

Big Pedal: We will be outdoors everyday this week to take part in the Big Pedal. Helmets must be worn on bikes and it would be safer if children with scooters wore helmets too, however that is up to individual parents. Bikes will be stored in the section of playground outside our classroom during the day.

Reading Challenge:  If possible could everyone please return their reading passports to me by Friday 27th April?  This means I can total up the number of books read by our class this year.

Thank you for your support and have a great week!

P2C Week Beg 26.03.18

What an amazing day in Primary 2C! I have been absolutely blown away by the ‘Oor Grandparents’ projects that have been coming in. Children have been presenting throughout the day and should be very, very proud of themselves. I cannot wait to hear some more stories tomorrow!

Children have also been working very sensibly and safely to make some tasty surprises for our Open Afternoon tomorrow – we hope you like them!  Details are as follows:

Our open afternoon on Tuesday 27th March starts at 2pm.  Please wait at our fire door at the P2C classroom to be let in.  There is an event in the gym hall which means we can’t allow access through the main office as usual.  The children will perform for you and then you will have the opportunity to see around the Primary 2 classrooms finishing in our own.  At around 3pm you will be asked to wait outside in the playground for your child to be dismissed as usual at 3:15.  The children can’t wait to show you all of their hard work and tell you all about out topic.

Homework: There will be no formal homework home this week although children are welcome to play Sumdog or phonics games. P.E.  bags and wellington boots will also be sent home on Wednesday of this week.

Congratulations: Well done to Abigail who was 21st in the Renfrewshire Sumdog Contest!

Cars: Our cars have been built, decorated and tested. Wow – what a fun time we had making and playing with our vehicles! All the children did a super job and you can test them out yourselves on our open day! Well done to Adam and Abigail whose car was judged as the overall P2 winner.

Dress Down Day: We will host a Dress Down For Uganda non-uniform day on Wednesday 28th March. Children can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for a small donation. Money raised will go toward my GLP summer placement in the Masindi region of Uganda. Thank you so much to all those who have already spoken to me about this placement – I cannot wait to share this adventure with the children and take them on their own classroom journey in Term 4!

Lastly, report cards will be issued on Thursday 29th March.  School closes at 2:30 on Thursday for the Easter holidays and reopens on Monday 16th April at 9:00.

Thank you for your support this term – it has been invaluable. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a super week ahead.

Week Beg 19.03.18

Good afternoon!

I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. Please see below for homework and class news.

Spelling: Our sound this week is ‘ea’ as in tea, sea, treat. In class we will be revising ‘ee’ and ‘e-e’ as well as discussing when ‘e’ is used as a single vowel sound.

Wordwalls: These will continue to be heard.

Reading: New reading books will be issued this week. We have been experimenting with our storyteller voice at read and munch time and I have been very impressed!

Maths: We have been learning about O’Clock this week as well as speaking about our daily timetables and routines. A maths homework sheet will be issued to support this. I have really enjoyed talking to the children about the time of day that they complete different tasks.

Oor Grandparents: A letter was issued about the project last week and I am already hearing several different ideas – it is wonderful! If you have any questions about this project or require paper please let me know.

Open Day: We can’t wait to see you next Tueaday afternoon. (27th). Pupils are looking forward to showcasing their topic work!

Have a great rest of your Sunday and as always, thank you for your support!

Week beg 12.03.18

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you’ve had a super weekend so far. Please see below for homework and class news.

Reading: New reading books will be issued tomorrow.

Spelling: Our sound this week is ‘ay’ as in play, tray, say. We will be discussing how to recognise when to use ‘ay’ and when to use ‘a-e’. Tomorrow I will post some links to online spelling games to help with this.

Wordwalls: These continue to be heard in class. New words may be underlined for your child to learn.

Maths: I absolutely loved reading all the bingo homework sheets. Some great new coin designs and fantastic foreign currency research too! This week a worksheet will be issued to consolidate our understanding of money.

In class we will begin to learn about time. If possible please discuss the idea of routine with your child – eg school starts at 9am, swimming lessons are at 4pm and will last for one hour. This will help children in class as we begin to look at o’clock, half past and the idea of both digital and analogue time.

‘Oor Grandparents’ project: Your child will receive a letter to take home about this final Katie Morag project before the end of term. The children should interview a grandparent (or equivalent) about what it was like when they were younger. They could ask about their favourite sweets, hobbies, school, etc. The children must create a small presentation about their chosen person. This can be in the form of a poster, labelled picture, story- whatever you like! The children must be able to talk about their person and be prepared to answer questions. All the information will be in your child’s letter.

News

It is going to be World Book Day tomorrow in Bishopton Primary! Your child may come as their favourite book character or wear pyjamas to school. If they choose not to wear either, they must come in school uniform. I can’t wait to hear about all your favourite books – I’m reading The Creakers just now and really enjoying it! We will also be having our read & munch with Primary 6G tomorrow. We can’t wait!

Enjoy the week ahead!

Fruit Cocktails

Thank you very much for bringing in such varied exotic fruit today – there was a huge selection! We discussed the origins of the fruit and even took a guess at what might be inside – we were surprised by some colours and textures.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting session and it was great to see everyone pitching in to help cut, peel and spoon. I was very impressed with today’s teamwork and think you should feel very proud of yourselves.

Health Week has been fantastic so far and pupils are embracing every activity on offer. We’ve had a number of visitors and sporting sessions – I’ll share some snaps tomorrow. Until then – enjoy some well earned rest!

Hello everyone! I hope you have enjoyed your unexpected few days off and had a chance to spent some time with family and friends. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and hearing about your adventures! Please see below for this week’s class news and updates.

Spelling: There will be no new spelling words issued for homework this week. Instead, we will be revisiting ‘wh’ as well as revising Magic ‘e’ in all its forms. Children will be challenged to create either a silly sentence using their words from last week, or a labelled picture of something beginning with ‘wh’.

Reading Books: There will be no reading books issued this week, but please feel to read for pleasure at home. Children may borrow a book from our class library to take home – I will provide a sign in/out sheet for these books.

We will have read and munch with P6G on Thursday – your child is welcome to bring a healthy snack to enjoy as they read. We will also have in class ERIC time on Friday.

Maths: Money bingo continues. Well done for all the super creations so far!

Health Week: This week is health week and there are some super activities planned for our class to enjoy. Your child can wear gym gear everyday this week as we plan to do lots of exercise!

Our day for fruit kebabs is Thursday. If possible, please try to bring one exotic piece of fruit to taste as part of the task. I love fruit, so I will bring some too!

Have a great week ahead, and thank you for your continued support.
