Health and Well-being Week – Friendship and Kindness Friday
Today we are going to learn about the importance of being kind and what it means to be a good friend.
Warm Up:
Watch this video to learn about what makes a good friend.
One of the things that makes a good friend is being kind. Being kind to others makes others feel good, but it also makes you feel good too.
Main Activity:
There are a few activities here. You can choose just one if you want or you can do all of them. It’s up to you.
Can you complete all these acts of kindness to complete this Kindness Bingo card?
Here is a list of questions about kindness that the adults at home can ask you and talk about with you.
Build a Friend – What makes a good friend. Talk about what makes a good friend with someone at home. How would you like your friends to treat you? How do you think a friends should treat another friend?
Draw a picture of a friend and get an adult to write your ideas about what makes a good friend round your drawing. There are a couple of examples below to give you an idea.
Extra Challenge:
Make a family kindness jar!
A family kindness jar is one of the many ways we can teach our children about the benefits of being kind. Through activities like this, we can teach our children that being kind is not only beneficial to others, but to ourselves, as well!
Supplies:
pen/marker
jar – like a used jam jar
paper
This is such a simple activity that takes minimal supplies. All you need is those three things and your family members!
Directions:
Gather your supplies and your family!
Take turns coming up with random acts of kindness that you would like to complete as a family, and write them down on your pieces of paper.
Put all of your papers in the jar, and decide on how often you are going to complete these acts of kindness. Weekly, monthly?
Take turns drawing an act of kindness out of the jar and completing them as a family!
You could also make a kindness jar but choose to do it this way instead which is lovely:
