Oh, and Mrs McLaughlin has made a fantastic Sweetie Cake and everyone is invited to guess the number of sweets.  The person who guesses closest, wins the cake!  (We didn’t post a pic, so there could be no cheating!)

The Class Teachers have planned fun activities to do in the class and we will end our day with an End of Term Assembly where the winners of the raffle and cake will be announced!

Don’t forget – NON UNIFORM (£1) and everything costs £1 per go, so please bring in pound coins if possible!

The children were all given wee slips of paper with name and parent details on them. These are to help with logging in to Parent Portal, as it requires you to enter the exact information we have on our system for you.

Interim Reports

As you may already know, our Pupil Interim Reports should be coming to you within the next week.  We hope to do this before the October holiday, but if not, it will be in the first week back.  The reason for this is that they have to be sent to you all digitally.  This is in line with North Lanarkshire’s policy for communicating with Parents and Carers.

In June, when the end of term reports were sent out, we were left in the position of having over 100 to post to families.  This was a huge expense and, going forward, sending these digitally means that you can look them up whenever you want.

The Interim Reports give a brief overview of each child’s progress and how they are settling into the new school year.  There is not a huge amount of detail, but they will highlight progress in Literacy, Numeracy and Health & Wellbeing, along with a general comment.

What do I need to do to receive my child’s Interim Report?

1. Ensure that you are signed up for Parent Portal.  Some of you will have done this last year.  (See information below.)
2. Ensure that you have updated your information with us (address/home telephone/mobile/email/emergency contacts).  Please send us an EMAIL to office@johnpaul.n-lanark.sch.uk and be sure to include YOUR name as well as your child’s full name so that we can identify who we are dealing with.

How do I register for Parent Portal?

Parent Portal is the new platform being used throughout Scotland to communicate with Parents and Carers.  It is accessible on any device (smartphone/tablet/laptop/desktop).  Within your Parent Portal Account you can:

• Have one login for all school related accounts (no matter how many children and how many schools they attend)
• Login once to book an appointment for parents’ night
• use the online payments
• check the school calendar
• give permission for trips and other things
• See your child’s reports whenever you like
• Report an absence

Not all of these functions will be available immediately, but we are sure that you can see the benefit.  This will eventually mean that we no longer need our School App.

Annual Fun Day – 9th October 2020

We have been bowled over by the generosity of our families and our staff in the past couple of days!  We have received an amazing amount of donations following our appeal and we wanted to say “Thank You!”  The generosity you have shown is so very much appreciated.

Everything will cost £1 – just to make things safe and easy.  We will not have change to give to the children so if you could send them in with £1 coins, that would be a huge help!

Our thoughts and prayers are with our P5 children from St Gabriel’s parish who will receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time today. You’ve been waiting a long time for this day, and we hope this will be the first of many visits to the table of the Lord. May God bless you all on this special day.

The Mass will be streamed on the St Gabriel’s webcam for anyone unable to attend in person but who wishes to be there in spirit with our children.

Flu Immunisation will be administered in St. John Paul II this coming Friday 2nd October 2020.

It is not too late to hand in your child’s permission form.  Simply complete it and hand it into school.

On the last day before the October Holidays, we normally hold our Annual October Fun Day.  This usually consists of lots of games, raffles, tombola, non-uniform, beat the goalie and our wonderful St John Paul’s Got Talent.  Unfortunately, for obvious reasons, we cannot have all of these events.  However, we can make the very best of the situation and still have a different kind of Fun Day.

We realise that there may be financial pressures on families at this time, therefore, ALL children can take part in the day regardless of whether they can bring money into school.  Nobody will be left out!

This kind of fundraising is what helps us keep our school funds healthy.  The money raised will be used to support activities for all of our children as well as subsidise technology and other events such as Christmas activities and other resource items.

Please take a few moments to answer some questions about homework and digital learning.  We want to review our Homework Policy.  In light of the steep learning curve we all had to endure during lockdown with digital learning, we want to understand how families deal with the digital aspect of homework.  Your opinion is very important and so we ask that you support us be completing the questionnaire.

We will ensure that any decisions we make regarding homework will take account of the views of the majority.

Wednesday 23rd September 2020

Tomorrow will be a Non-Uniform day and children can dress down to come to school.  We are trying to boost our school funds and so any donations would be welcome.

Normally we suggest £1 per child, but we realise that there are lots of financial pressures on families.  In order to support this, please note…

• Every child can take part regardless of whether they make a donation!
• Donations can be any amount – more or less than £1
• Payments can be made online or by bringing in cash.  Cash will be handled properly and safely within the COVID restrictions.

THIS IS NOT A FUN DAY.  The children will follow their normal timetable for a Wednesday but will have some extra play time in the afternoons.  You do not need to send any money into school for taking part in activites.

Strictly no football colours to be worn (in line with North Lanarkshire Policy).
