Starting Primary

As well as having close links with our own Nursery Class, we are very lucky to have such close links with the children and staff of Laburnum Nursery Centre. The majority of our Primary 1 intake comes from these nurseries. We also receive placing requests from parents of children who attend various other Nurseries.

In preparation for starting Primary School, we run an induction programme which includes the following:

Children visit the school throughout their time at Nursery with use of our Library, ICT room, Astroturf Pitch, and Gym Hall
Children come along to our school fun days, assemblies and concerts
Staff meet a number of times to exchange information
Children and their parents/carers are invited to induction events
P6 Children are trained to be buddies and they take part in a paired reading programme with nursery children.
P7 children are trained as buddies and spend the initial weeks with our new P1 intake, meeting them at the gate in the morning, helping them in the playground and lunch hall.
Children attend school on 2 occasions during the induction programme. They get to know their teachers and have lunch with parents at school. We also provide Parent Transition Workshops in Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing.
We are continually updating and improving our transition arrangements.
For more information please contact the school.
