Welcome Back for Summer Term!

Well, it’s that time again – back to school tomorrow! We hope you’ve all had a brilliant Easter break and we’re looking forward to welcoming you back for the summer term.

Breakfast club is available as usual tomorrow from 8.15am. We are on the Week 1 menu for lunches, although there is a slight change to Monday’s sandwiches – it will be tuna instead of ham.

See you all tomorrow! 💙💛

20th Anniversary Video – Help Needed!!!

This year, St John Paul II Primary marks its 20th Anniversary. As part of our celebrations I (Miss Agnew) am creating a video of memories of our 20 year history, and I need your help! If you are a former pupil, staff member, parent/carer or have been involved in our school in any way over the last 20 years, then I want to hear from you!

Can you make a video of yourself, sharing a memory, funny moment, something you took away from your time with us, anything at all? Maybe you were one of the first through our doors? Maybe you were on one of trips to Rome or Poland? Football, netball, drama club memories?

Can you them email the video to nlagnewl@northlan.org.uk and I will collate them all, with some memories from our current pupils and share on our YouTube Channel.

If you’d rather not be filmed, then simply type and send me your memory and I’ll get one of our kids to read them out on video.

Also, if you have any photos you’d like to share, we’d love those too!

I need all submissions by 1st May!

Thanks in advance for your help and I can’t wait to hear all your memories!

Update for this week

THURSDAY AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

Football will run as normal today.  Drama is CANCELLED for Thursday 19th February and will restart next Thursday.

DISCO INFORMATION

Please be aware that, due to the new PVG restrictions (clearance to volunteer) parents/carers will not be able to enter and/or remain in the hall for the disco.  Only previously agreed volunteers and school staff can be in the hall.  I hope that you understand why this is needed.

As usual, we will dismiss the children by bringing you in to collect them through the main door and exiting through the door at the back of the hall.

P1-3 Disco:  6pm – 7:15pm

P4-7 Disco:  7:30pm – 8:45pm

There is a tuck shop at the disco selling drinks and sweet treats.  Tickets are still available and can be bought at the door this evening.

NON UNIFORM, CRAZY HAIR DAY & DANCE-A-THON – Friday 20th February

Children do not need to wear uniform tomorrow.

Children were issued with Sponsor Forms for our Sponsored Dance-a-thon which takes place tomorrow.   Please send in forms and donations tomorrow.  If you have not managed to gather sponsors from family and friends, you can make a donation (no amount is too small!) by sending this in tomorrow.  Donations can be made by using the online payment system or by sending in cash.

Children are invited to take part in Crazy Hair tomorrow also.  However, if your child does not wish to wear a crazy style, they do not have to!  There is no obligation to take part.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR LENT 2026

Yesterday (Wednesday 18th February) was Ash Wednesday.  This marks the beginning of the Season of Lent.  Our normal tradition of daily Mass with Father Morris during Lent will continue.  Please see below.  Mass begins at 8:20am and only lasts 20 minutes.  It is open to children, staff, parents and grandparents and any parishioners who wish to join us.  Children can attend Breakfast Club after Mass if they wish.

NLC – NO E-SCOOTERS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS

Please see the attached letter from North Lanarkshire Council Education and Families Chief Officer, Barry Smedley.

This is in relation to the use of e-scooters on school grounds.  Basically, they are informing all parents/carers that:

  • It is against the law to use a privately owned e-scooter in public places.
  • E-scooters are not permitted on school grounds.  They should not be used by children to travel to/from school.

The full letter can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

NEWS FOR THIS WEEK

Parent Consultation Meeting on the Enhanced Provision Class at St. John Paul II

Representatives from North Lanarkshire Council Education and Families are inviting all Parents/Carers to an consultation meeting on Wednesday 21st January 2026 from 6pm in the school hall.

The purpose of this meeting is to consult on the current ongoing pilot of the Enhanced Provision Class at St. John Paul II.  As this is a pilot, they want to hear from Parents/Carers about their opinions regarding making this a permanent provision within St. John Paul II.  This is a good opportunity to hear more about the provision and what it would mean for our school.  It is also an opportunity to share your views/opinions/concerns.

North Lanarkshire have been in contact directly with Parents/Carers to invite them via text and email over the last few weeks.  Please come along and support the meeting.  This is open to ALL Parents/Carers and not just those who have children in the class.
