Health Week will run from Monday 12th until Thursday 14th June.  It is not quite a full week this year in order to accommodate a celebration for Father Morris’ 50th Anniversary of Ordination.

Mrs MacFadyen has been working very hard to plan a packed week filled with wonderful opportunities and experiences for all children.  To read about this and to find out what you need to know as parents/carers, please click  on the link below (this is not 12 pages long!)

NEW PARKING RESTICTIONS – LABURNUM ROAD & SCHOOL GROUNDS

You may have noticed that there are new single yellow lines on both sides of Laburnum Road directly outside the school grounds.  The line on our side of the road continues through the vehicle gate of the school and round the corner into the area where the zebra crossing is.

These yellow lines are supported by the No Stopping signs (see below).  You can see that this means that:

Stopping on those yellow lines is illegal between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

Please adhere to these new restrictions which are now enforceable.  Similar restrictions are being put in place at schools throughout North Lanarkshire.

THIS WEEK WE HAD SOMEONE DRIVE THE WRONG WAY ROUND THE ONE WAY SYSTEM… STRAIGHT THROUGH THE NO ENTRY SIGN!

This happened at the end of the school day, when the area was very busy and when our children are being dismissed.

TODAY A PARENT DROVE A LARGE VEHICLE INTO THE CAR PARK WHILST ON THEIR MOBILE PHONE. This was before school as children were arriving.  Apart from being illegal, it is extremely dangerous.

WE APPEAL TO ALL DRIVERS:

Think about your actions.  Think about your speed.  Think about WHERE you park.  Think… am I breaking the law?

STRIKE ACTION – Tuesday 28th February & Wednesday 1st March

North Lanarkshire Council have announced the following information which affects our Nursery Class:

Due to the Association of Heads and Deputes of Scotland withdrawing from the industrial action on Tuesday and Wednesday, St. John Paul II Nursery Class will now be open on the two days of Industrial Action.  In a change to the previous message… There will NOW BE LUNCH PROVISION on these days and so children NO LONGER NEED TO bring a Packed Lunch.

The school (P1 – P7) will remain closed on the 28th February and 1st March.

See the full message from NLC below:

Further industrial action over the national pay offer has been announced by teacher unions, the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), the Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) on Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March 2023.

  • All primary, secondary and ASN schools will be closed to pupils.
  • Some of the term-time, school-based nursery classes will be closed to pupils.*

* Due to the Association of Headteachers and Deputes in Scotland (AHDS) withdrawing from participating in industrial action, the following term-time, school-based nursery classes will be open on Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March:

  • Alexander Peden
  • Baird
  • Calderbank
  • Cambusnethan
  • Honeywell
  • Mossend
  • Muirhouse
  • New Monkland
  • St Bartholomew’s
  • St Gerard’s
  • St John Paul II
  • St Thomas
  • Stane
  • Stepps
  • Tannochside
  • Tollbrae
  • Townhead
  • Westfield

Please note that this is a fluid situation and this page will be updated.

The 23 family learning centres and 23 full-time nurseries will remain open on both days.

The intended school closures may mean that you will need to consider additional childcare arrangements over these dates.

LUNCH PROVISION WILL TAKE PLACE AS NORMAL

Families in receipt of free school meals based on low income will be reimbursed through a direct payment to bank accounts or via Paypoint voucher to postal addresses which may take up to five working days.

This is a situation that may be subject to change and parents/carers will be informed at the first opportunity if there are further changes to the school day.
