I hope that you all remain safe and well. Please see a reminder for planning and tasks this week as a result of staff working in the HUB.
Chryston HUB; Public Holidays and INSET Day
Parents, this week is a little different for everyone as many of our staff will be working in Chryston HUB. On the days they are working in the HUB, staff will not be uploading work for children. However, new home-learning grids have been uploaded and children can select tasks from these.
The timetable below indicates the days when work will not be uploaded for specific classes:
Monday 4th May: Primary 1 (Miss McEleney) and Primary 3
Good morning boys and girls, I hope you had a lovely weekend. Let’s start today with our morning prayer and a Hail Mary. It’s the month of May now and a lovely hymn for the month of May is Bring Flowers of the Rarest. Why not learn this?
Health & Wellbeing
A good way to start the day.
Go Noodle – Banana, banana, meatball
Have a go at this one, It is so catchy and great for making patterns. My girls love this one!
Literacy
P3 Phoneme -oe (eg. toe)
Make a list of as many oe words as you can find or think of and write sentences for five of them. Get an adult to check them for you.
P4 – Common words: sure, before, never, fruit, believe, decided,
Write each word out three times using your spelling strategies (pyramid writing, bubble writing etc).
The month of May is when we remember Mary. Mary was the mother of Jesus. Can you write a paragraph about why your mum or nana is so important to you? What does she do to make you feel safe/happy/proud?
Draw a picture of your nana/mum and label it “You are special to me because…” Write all the reasons around the picture.
Numeracy
This week we are going to look at sharing – divison.
Have a look at the following powerpoint to remind you of division.

Here is Cressida Cowell reading Chapter 19 of, “How to Train your Dragon.”
Hiccup and Toothless have just saved everyone from certain death but the tribes believe that Toothless is dead and are giving a great viking funeral to the little dragon. Describe this funeral before it is interrupted by Hiccup, Fishlegs and Horrorcow.
Here is some film that might spark your imagination.

I’ve also assigned you some more books in Scholastic Books. Some are shorter but there is one longer novel that I think that you will enjoy.
May is the month of Mary.
In class we would be making a May Altar in honour of Our Lady. One of the things that we would be putting on our class altar would be flowers. Can you find out which flowers are associated with Our Lady? Perhaps you could try to find or draw some at home that you could use to begin making a May Altar of your own.
As it’s Monday it’s time to get your body moving.
Remember you can still choose another task from your learning grid and there are other tasks on Sumdog, StudyLadder, FirstNews and Scholastic Books.
I hope that you have all had a wonderful weekend, that you’ve had breakfast and are ready to begin a brand new week!
Let’s begin with the morning prayer:
God our Father, as we begin our day’s work we ask you to help us to use properly the many gifts you have given us so that we may fully benefit from our day together. Amen.
Health and Wellbeing
I saw that you were practising some Spanish on Friday. How about a Hula to get us going?
Learning Grids
The eagle-eyed among you might have spotted that new learning grids have been uploaded today. There are quite a few activities I think that you are going to enjoy.
Macavity the Mystery Cat Challenge!
On the last learning grid I set a task based on one of my favourite poems: Macavity the Mystery Cat. I challenged you to write an additional verse. Well, below you will find a super verse written by Rachael:
Macavity, Macavity, he likes to be well-known
He always knew he would be the cat that had the heart of stone.
You might lose your golden treasure or your fruits like grapes or pears;
But when you start to find them all, Macavity’s not there!
He may give your kids a fright, or even quite a scare
But when the parents come to see, Macavity is not there!
He has been away for weeks now, oh where could he have gone?
But when you become fast asleep – he will be there all along!
Fantastic work, Rachael! I really enjoyed reading your work and I think that TS Eliot, the poet would have loved it too!
I’m still waiting for more verses and visualizations. Please email them to me:
ht@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk
Thank you!
Literacy
Spelling Words
This week we are going to focus on place names, specifically those of cities and towns in Scotland.
Use the map below to see where each of the towns and cities lies within Scotland.
Literacy Task
Creating a Tourist Guide
Note: this task might take a day or two to complete.
Many people use a Tourist Guide when they visit a new country, city or town. Your task is to select one of the cities or towns from your spelling list and to carry out some research. You are going to write a couple of paragraphs about the city/town giving key information for a tourist visiting Scotland.
Recreational facilities (e.g. football stadia with tours, leisure centres, visitor centres etc.)
Remember: this is a guide for tourists. You could include some illustrations or maps however it has to be brief and include all of the salient (key) information about your selected town or city (tourists are eager to see the sights – they will not have time to read for a long period of time). I’m looking forward to reading some of your work as I haven’t been to some of those places…perhaps you might persuade me to visit some in the future!
Numeracy
Today we are going to explore numbers to one million – 1 000 000!
Don’t worry if you have not worked on these before – as I said, we’re going ‘to explore!’
Please click on the link below and then switch to ‘slideshow’ as the answers follow the questions! Let’s go Number Detectives!
Yesterday was Good Shepherd Sunday. We remember that Jesus is the Good Shepherd and that we are just like his sheep. A good shepherd looks after all of his sheep and he always makes sure that he knows exactly where each one is. A good shepherd worries about each and every one of his sheep and he keeps them safe and well.
Yesterday Fr. Campbell told a true story during Mass about a shepherdess who lives on one of the Scottish Islands far north of the Scottish mainland.
She had a flock of sheep and one of these sheep had a little lamb. Nothing unusual about that; however the mother sheep wouldn’t look after the lamb and wouldn’t feed it or care for it. That is unusual.
The shepherdess, a good shepherdess looked after the lamb herself. She fed it and cared for it; she even gave it a name – Norman!
In due course she sold some lambs at auction, including Norman. A while later, she regretted her decision. She traced him all the way to a farm in Aberdeen – hundreds of miles from where she lived.
She travelled all the way to Aberdeen to the farm. There were seven hundred lambs in the field but she recognized Norman. Amazingly, Norman recognized her when she called his name and came running over to her! They both went back to the islands.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He always recognizes each one of us and he always takes care of us. Even when we do something wrong, he welcomes us back with open arms when we say that we’re sorry.
Perhaps you could make a 3D picture of the Good Shepherd. Look at the idea below.
Learning Grids
To finish today, please select an activity or two from the home-learning grids. You’ll find them in the home-learning grid section on the right-hand side of the website!
I hope that you all enjoy the rest of your day and I’ll see you tomorrow!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are feeling refreshed and ready to go.
Let’s begin our week with the morning prayer. Close your eyes and ask God to continue to keep us safe. 🙏🏻
To help us get moving and grooving this Monday morning I want you to think of songs that cheer you up and make you want to dance. I have attached a worksheet that I would like you to fill in with your top songs that make you smile 😀. When you have completed this task perhaps you could put on a few of the songs and do some dancing before you begin today’s lessons? Can you think of a better way to start your Monday morning?
Remember you don’t have to complete every task that I upload this week. Try your best to spend a few hours a day doing school work but it is important that you take regular breaks and make sure you fit in your daily exercise.
Have a marvellous Monday and I look forward to hearing from you this week.
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are enjoying spending time with your families. I miss seeing you all each day and I hope it isn’t too long before I see you all again.
It is a brand new week so let’s begin our day with our morning prayer 🙏🏼
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together.
St. Barbara, pray for us.
Now I would like you to say a Hail Mary and ask our lady to help you and your family keep healthy and safe during this difficult time.
This week will be a little different from normal. Miss Shreenan is in the Hub Tuesday & Wednesday this week so there will be no work posted on these days. Don’t worry though you have plenty of work to be keeping you busy bee’s 🐝
I have assigned more work than normal today so don’t worry if you don’t manage to get through it all today, you can continue with this over the next couple of days.

Don’t forget we also have newfirst level home-learning grids you can be working from.
I hope you all have a marvellous Monday, try not to work too hard. Remember to take plenty of breaks and stay hydrated.
It’s Monday again and hopefully you are ready to start a new week. I am enjoying working at home and at the hub and have really enjoyed spending lots of quality time with my daughters. Good morning, boys and girls. I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to do some work today.
Today, we are going to start with some exercises to waken you up! I thought that you would enjoy another yoga session. Today, you are going to watch and follow a programme of your choice. Here is the link:
Remember to have some water handy. You need to keep your body hydrated during and after exercise.
We are now in the month of May. This is the month of Our Lady. In May we honour our lady and pray to her knowing that she will help us with all our needs.
Today I would like you to make a May altar. This is what you need;
Some blue fabric.
A picture or a statue of Our Lady.
A set of rosary beads.
A candle.
Now find a quiet place and set up your May altar. It might look like this.
If you don’t have these thing you can draw a picture of a May altar, remember to add in the things above.
Now say a Hail Mary and ask our lady to help you and your family during this difficult time to stay safe and healthy.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Today is Friday the 1st of May, a new month, a special month as we remember that this month is dedicated to Mary, Jesus’s Mother.
As we normally go to mass on the first Friday of every month, maybe today, with an adult supervising, you could watch the live stream of mass with Father Campbell at 10.00 am on Facebook.
Let’s begin with our morning prayer and afterwards we will remember all those who have died:🙏
Eternal rest grant unto them O’Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon them
May they rest in peace.
May their souls
and the souls of the faithfully departed,
Through the mercy of God
rest in peace. Amen.
The Diocese of Motherwell have asked the school to share with you that every weekday during May, they will tweet a new video for families to do at home and these will also be hosted on their website and on Facebook. Here is the first one for you.
Attached above is a lovely card for you to record your prayer each day. 🙏
In class we would be creating our May Altar. If you have a little space in your room or in your home, you could create your very own May Altar. I have attached a powerpoint to show you what you would need. May Altar
Please log in to Sumdog to find your times table challenge for today.
Boys and girls well done for all of your hard work on Place Value. I have attached below a link to take you to a wee recap of Place Value up to 3 digits. This will help you consolidate your work from the last two weeks. If there is anything you are still unsure of, please let me know and I can send you some more work to practise.
It’s been a while since I have completed Joe Wicks as we have been using our daily walk to keep active here. I think I’ll log on to carry out my exercise for today. Why don’t you join me!
If you have time and have not already done so, a little reminder about the road safety mascot competition. Today is the closing date, so you still have time. Remember to send a photograph of your entry to Miss McMullen at mcmullenk@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk. All the details are on Twitter.
If you need me for anything today, please get in touch by email – my email address is SBoyce@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk
