How are you all? I hope you are well and ready to start your day.
Let us begin as we always do, by saying our morning prayer.
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work today, help us to use properly the many gifts you have given us so that we may fully benefit from our day together.
Amen.
Here are a few fun riddles to get our brains working this morning-
There’s a one-story house where everything is yellow. The walls are yellow. The doors are yellow. Even all the furniture is yellow. The house has yellow beds and yellow couches. What colour are the stairs?
I am often following you and copying your every move. Yet you can never touch me or catch me. What am I?
What has a spine but no bones?
What tastes better than it smells?
What has many keys but cannot open a single door?
I will post the answers to these riddles on Friday morning. I managed to get 3 out of 5 correct, can you do better?
Well done to Daniel McFall who is today’s maths champion . He came first place in the Sum Dog competition that was set as part of today’s activities. Daniel, you have a fantastic knowledge of multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 . Who will be our next champion?
I will be back tomorrow morning with more daily activities.
Good morning boys and girls. I hope you are all well this morning and ready to start some work.
Every day in school, we say our Angel of God prayer, so after our morning prayer, let’s say this today.
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here,
Ever this day, be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide.
Literacy
Note for P3!
Yesterday I made a mistake and copied the wrong common words. Apologies everyone, my eyesight is getting worse and I looked at the wrong line as I was typing! So here are the correct words for this week:
P3 – write, answer, began, heat, page
Write these out 3 times and write a sentence for each.
P4 – write a sentence for each common word I gave you yesterday. (quiet, quite, mumbled, important, quickly)
Yesterday I directed you to a lesson about plants and flowers. Today I have attached a comprehension exercise for you to complete based on birds in your garden. There are three worksheets. P3, I would expect you to be able to complete the first one. P4, the second and for anyone who may like to further challenge themselves, have a go at the last page.
Every day, we try to give you ideas and tips on how to stay active and healthy. Today I have attached a link which informs you of the importance of sleep and a regular bedtime routine. It is especially hard just now as everyone is out of their routine but you should try to get the right amount of sleep to help you stay healthy, positive and happy.

d) By how much more is the highest total larger than the second highest?
e) Find the difference between how much Dawn raised from her family and from ‘others’.
Remember, decimals make no difference to how you add, subtract, multiply or divide you only have to remember to keep the decimal points above one another, in a straight line.
This is not how we would write out sums to find the answer so don’t write them this way in your jotter. Use place value, carrying and decomposition (borrowing) to find your answers.
I’ll post the answers to these tomorrow or you can send me your answers at:

This week for spelling we’re looking at a spelling rule. The rule is, “Silent E for V and U”
To avoid words ending in a ‘v’ or a ‘u’ a silent ‘e’ is often added.
Here are a list of words which follow this rule. Write them into your jotter and practise them this week in any way you choose.
There are several popular prayers which call upon Mary to intercede for us. Find one and write it out. Illustrate your prayer in the flowers associated with Our Lady.
Time for a Wednesday workout

Remember you can still choose another task from your updated learning grid and there are other tasks on Sumdog, StudyLadder, FirstNews and Scholastic Books.
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work today, help us to use properly the many gifts you have given us so that we may fully benefit from our day together. Amen.

I hope that you managed to make some super 3D spelling pairs. Today, using the other four pairs, create a spelling flower like the one below. In the centre, write: Country/City
Collective Nouns
I hope that you enjoyed yesterday’s activities. The answers can be found below.
A flock of sheep.
A forest of trees.
A team of football players.
A pack of wolves.
A bunch of flowers.
A herd of cows.
What might you expect to find in each of these groups?
a crew of sailors
a gaggle of geese
a pride of lions
an orchestra of musicians
a litter of puppies or kittens
a shoal of fish/herrings
a bed of flowers/oysters/snakes/clams
a caravan of camels
a den of thieves
a loft of pigeons
Task 1
As I said earlier, sometimes we use the same collective noun for different things – and you can see some examples above.
Your tasks is to find two different things for each of the following collective nouns. Don’t use any of the examples we have already used.
A flock of ___________.
A nest of____________.
A school of ____________.
A team of ____________.
A troop of ____________.
A herd of ____________.
A colony of ____________.
A band of ____________.
Task 2
Collective nouns can make us imagine some very silly pictures.
Did you know that a group of lizards is called a lounge of lizards? Or that if you look up into the trees that you might see a murder of crows?
Have a look at the images below to see how an artist imagined the examples above!
A lounge of Lizards A murder of crows
Over to you….please select a collective noun of your choice and create a picture to illustrate. Please ask an adult to email it to me…let’s see if we can create a gallery of collective nouns!
Numeracy
Yesterday we looked at a mental maths division wheel and some word problems.
On Sunday the Primary 4 children were supposed to celebrating their First Holy Communion. Sadly this will not take place. I thought that it might be an idea for you to write a short prayer to let them know that you are thinking of them at this time.
If you write and decorate your prayer and send it to me, I’ll ask the P.4 teachers to post all of the prayers on their blogs.
I think that you’ve all worked very hard today…so time for a rest and some relaxation!
How are you all? I hope you have managed to make your bed and have your breakfast.
I hope you got on okay with yesterday’s tasks. What new sound did you learn again? That’s right, the ph sound. Did you manage to think of lots of words that begin with this sound?
These are all photographs. Another ph word!
Let’s begin our day with our morning prayer.
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together in school. St. Barbara, pray for us.
Ask your child to think of a strategy to help them spell each new common word correctly. For example, they might spot a word within a word that could help them. One has the word on in it and they might spot it in little. They can choose a strategy that works best for them.
Writing
Once your child has written their sentences ask them to check that they have included their core writing targets.
Reading- Scholastic
Most people have sent me an email and have been reading their assigned books on Scholastic. If you haven’t been able to access this resource yet and would like your child’s login details, please send me an email. lmceleney@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk or gw13mceleneylauren@glow.sch.uk
Today your task is to do something to care for the natural world.
Upcycling Challenge
These are just some ideas that you might like to try or get creative and come up with your own. I would love to see your creations! Please send me a picture via email or twitter.

Enjoy your day boys and girls. Remember I am just an email away if you want to ask any questions or chat about your work.
Before I go, Dippy wanted to show you who he has been hanging about with.
My dog Charlie! They both like to play tricks on me!
I hope you are all up, made your bed, had your breakfast and are ready to learn!
Let’s begin our day with our morning prayer.🙏🏻
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together. St. Barbara, pray for us.
Let’s say a special ‘Hail Mary’ for all the people who are sick in our world and for those caring for them.
God Our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us to use properly the many gifts that you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together at school. St Barbara Pray for us.
Numeracy
Today we are going to continue with our work on addition. Please select the same colour that you chose yesterday for todays task.
Red:
Today we are looking at addition sums with a missing number.
For example 4 + ___ = 9
We can do this by finding 4 on a number line and counting on until we land on 9. How many did we have to count on?
Click the link below to access an activity. Please complete the first page only.
Remember it is very important to stay active during this time.
If you can, go out for a walk and get some fresh air.
Today I am going to try out this ‘Daily Walk Challenge’ and I thought Primary 3 might like to join in.

Throughout the month of May we honour and pray to Our Lady.
Did you know that Our Lady has many different names? These names are connected to different places where she has appeared or to help that she gives people in need. One of the names Our Lady has been given is Our Lady of Fatima. Click the link below to find more information about Our Lady of Fatima.
Good morning boys and girls, it’s Wednesday again! I hope that you are all well and keeping busy. Let’s begin our day with our morning prayer:
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us to use properly the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together. St Barbara pray for us.🙏
Literacy – This week we have a new phoneme ‘ph’ making the sound f. What words can you think of using the ‘ph’ phoneme?
Usually in class we use our magnetic boards to practise with a friend, if you have one at home please try to do this with someone in your family, if not you can practise writing the words out.
dolphin, elephant, phone, phonics, photo, trophy
Strategy:
Say the word out loud – dolphin 🐬
Make the word/break the word – d o l ph i n
Blend the word (push the sounds together) – dolphin
Read the word – 📖dolphin
Write the word 📝 Try to use this strategy with each word.
Written task – In your jotter write the heading ‘The Phoneme Ph’ – now copy and complete…
1. In school we learn ________ to help us with our spelling.
2. The ___________ used his trunk to drink some water.
3. The _________ rang so I answered it.
4. I looked very smart in my school __________.
It is also important to practise reading all of the common words in your word box, remember to write out your 3 new words and add them to your box – one, first, little. Practise writing these words in a fun way.
Reading – I have assigned a new book for you to begin today on scholastic. Firstly I would like you to listen to the story, then read it aloud to a member of your family and answer the quiz questions orally.
Numeracy– For the rest of the week we are going to focus on subtraction. Remember… subtracting means taking away and taking away always makes the number smaller.
RE – May is the month of Mary, let’s say a special ‘Hail Mary’ for all those who are sick in our world. Yesterday Mrs Connelly told you the story of Our Lady of Fatima, I thought that you might like to watch this little video.

Health– Choose your favourite active activity today, it may be a daily walk or cycle, it may be Cosmic Yoga, Jump Start Johnny or workout with Joe Wicks, you choose.
I hope you have a great day. If you need any help please contact me: gw09wallacemarie2@glow.sch.uk
