Ask your child to think of a strategy to help them spell each new common word correctly. For example, they might spot a word within a word that could help them. One has the word on in it and they might spot it in little. They can choose a strategy that works best for them.

Good morning Super Stars 🌟

Did you enjoy your long weekend? I hope you managed to relax and have some fun!

On Friday, I got up early and went on a 13.5 mile bike ride. The sun was shining! It was amazing to get outside and admire the beautiful outdoors. I managed to spot some lambs, horses and cows as I was cycling past some fields.🚲

One thing I am finding difficult just now is keeping track of the days! What day is it today boys and girls? Perhaps you might like to sing the days of the week song to help you work it out.

This week’s phoneme is ph. Emphasise to your child that this phoneme is made up of two letters p and h but when we put them together, it makes the same sound as the letter f. Ph makes a f sound. It is a tricky sound.

Common Words

Common Word Hopscotch

All you need for this fun game is some chalk and a pebble or beanbag. Go outside and create a hopscotch pattern just like the one below. Choose some of your trickier common words and write them in each square. There are lots of ways to play but one way is to throw the pebble/beanbag onto hopscotch board. Whichever word the beanbag/pebble lands on is the word to be read. Repeat until you have read all of the words at least once.

Common Word Football ⚽

This activity is super fun, especially if you are a huge football fan.

What you need: cards with sight words on them, cones (or bucket or cups or sticks), a ball and a marked goal area.

Read each of the words aloud to an adult as you dribble the ball around the cones. When you get to the end of the cones, you can take a shot.

Common Word Twister 🌪

What You Need: Twister Game, paper, pen and tape or you can create your own game – outside with some chalk.

Fill each circle with your common words. Play, laugh and learn.

Of course you deserve some golden time after all of your hard work this week. You have continued to impress me with all of the wonderful work that you have been sending me. I loved seeing some of the amazing Superheroes that you created! Well done!

I think the mums and dads deserve some golden time too. They have been working hard helping you learn at home and I am so grateful for all of their help. 🙏🏻Let them put up their feet tonight and perhaps you could treat them to a little bit of peace and quiet or you could help them with some chores.
