Sports for Champions Event

Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist, Stephanie Inglis, will visit Stane Primary on Thursday 21st September to work with all of the children from P1-7 for their sponsored circuit.

Children were issued with a sponsor form from Sports for Champions a few weeks ago. Don’t worry if you have misplaced it, a new copy can be downloaded from http://www.sportsforchampions.com/sites/default/files/downloads/sponsorship-form.pdf

By hosting a ‘Sports for Champions’ event, we are helping to raise money to support young athletes to be able to compete in national events.  It also helps to raise much needed school funds.  The first £400 raised will be donated to Sports for Champions and all money raised thereafter goes to the school.  If every child can raise just £2.60, we will be able to meet the target of £400.

You can find out more about the event at http://www.sportsforchampions.com

On the day of the event, children should come to school wearing suitable sports clothes and bring their sponsor money and completed form.

Family Learning Open Morning

Thank you to the 80 parents, grandparents and friends of Stane Primary who attended our Family Learning Open Morning today.  It was wonderful to have some much purposeful learning taking place.

The morning began with Mr. Clark outlining some of the work that the school has been taking part in around attachment and connectedness.  The importance of understanding trauma and ‘Adverse Childhood Experiences’ was explored and the idea of internal ‘Sabre-tooth Tigers and Teddy Bears‘ was introduced from the work of Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk

Mr. Clark outlined how the school is aiming to be attachment friendly and trauma informed by sharing the updated Vision, Values and Aims statements of Stane Primary School and Nursery Class.

Later on, everyone had a chance to visit their child’s classroom and engage in a family learning activity to explore further our values of ‘Kindness, Compassion, Courage and Community’.

Thank you to everyone who participated to help shape our school’s shared vision and values.

Family Focussed Primary 1 Induction Day

As a trauma-sensitive school, we understand the importance of safe and secure transitions.  We can aim to achieve this by including families in important events and milestones such as their child’s first day at school.

During our first ever family-focussed induction day, our new Primary 1 pupils had the pleasure of the company of their parents and families throughout the whole of their first morning in school.

Their new class teacher, Mr. O’Donnell, personally escorted each child and parent into the classroom and the fun shared activities were designed to be worked on together – a real example of family learning.

From these pictures of happy, smiling faces, you can see how successful the morning was.

Evaluations from our parents highlighted the success of this approach:
