The Higher Geography pupils recently enjoyed a full day at the Kindrogan Field Centre in Perthshire.
They carried out a variety of geographical techniques to gather information about soils for their Higher Geography Assignment. All pupils and staff braved the elements and the day was a great success!
Higher and Advanced Higher Spanish pupils spent a cultural afternoon at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow watching “La Casa de Bernarda Alba”, a play by the Spanish dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca.
Pupils had the unique opportunity to watch the play being performed and, without doubt, it brought the plot, characters and themes to life. A lovely afternoon was had by both staff and pupils!
Pupils in S5/6 took part in Mock Interviews on Thursday 24 November. We were delighted to welcome over 40 interviewers who gave up their time and expertise to help our pupils to achieve their potential, as well as giving them valuable feedback and advice. This also allowed them to have real life experience of interviews and to help them prepare for the future.
A big thank you to all our interviewers and the S6 helpers who ensured the smooth running of the event.
Our young people have gained a great deal from the experience and hopefully, it will help them have many successful interviews in the future!
Elle O’Reilly S2 and Euan McDonald S3 competed in the North Lanarkshire Schools’ Swimming competition earlier this month.
Congratulations to Euan who won silver in the 100m backstroke and Elle who won gold for 100m Butterfly, 200m Butterfly and 200m I.M. This is a massive achievement for the pupils as they were competing in the age category above their usual category.
Well done to both of them!
28 senior pupils studying geography and biology enjoyed a fabulous weekend in Aviemore from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 November. The group stayed in the Youth Hostel and visited the Highland Wildlife Park to meet the animals including the snow leopards and polar bears. They also benefited from a bus tour, walking tour and lecture from the very knowledgeable park education officer.
The group also visited Loch Morlich and took a trip up the Cairngorm Mountains on the Funicular Railway to get an amazing view from the top!
There were spooky goings on when S1 enjoyed a Halloween party on Friday 28 October!
S6 pupils as part of their Personal Development Award helped with the organisation and running of this event.
A great time was had by all!
A group of 6 girls and 6 boys from S3 participated in the Fire Reach programme organised by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council.
The pupils completed this programme of work at Coatbridge Community Fire Station and focussed on several key areas; self discipline, basic first-aid skills, problem solving skills, communication skills, health & safety awareness, leadership skills, citizenship, team work and team building exercises and ultimately, life-saving skills.
The pupils involved had a very positive experience throughout the course and the instructors could not praise them highly enough for their efforts. The pupils have also achieved an Employability Skills Award at National 4 level and a First Aid Certificate.
Congratulations to Hope Davies, Niamh Hailstones, Kobie Gillan, Abbie Lyons, Shauni Murray, Emma Williamson, David Broxton, Nathan Fox, Connor Halligan, Louis Hennessy, Ryan MacDonagh and Sean Paul Spiers.
