On the evening of Tuesday 5 December a total of 50 pupils from the Music and Drama departments were involved in our Christmas Concert. The evening was very well attended by staff, pupils and family members.
Our pupils put on an outstanding performance which demonstrated their creativity and talent and a fantastic sum of £375 was raised for charity. Thanks to all involved in the preparation and on the evening itself. Well done to all performers!
Congratulations to Robyn Aitken in S5 for designing the beautiful 2017 School Christmas Card.
Robyn is studying Higher Art & Design this year and was thrilled to be given the opportunity to design this years school Christmas Card. The design focused on Our Lady and depicts ‘Madonna and Child’.
In addition to our Christmas parcels, pupils and staff of Our Lady’s High School raised a magnificent £1750 from our various Advent charities activities. This money will be distributed between local Parishes, SCIAF and St. Nicholas Care Fund.
S3 pupils took part in our Numeracy for Work Event. We were delighted to be joined by 30 representatives from industry who spoke to pupils about their jobs, the skills and qualities required and practical applications of Numeracy.
The representatives ranged from Cumbernauld Airport to retailers, surgeons and engineers. This was part of the Curriculum for Excellence Numeracy Across Learning in conjunction with the Scottish Government’s ‘Developing Young Workforce’ initiative. The pupils had a great afternoon and found it very informative. A big thank you to all our participants who made it such a great success!
Numeracy Week concluded with an afternoon of team challenges, quizzes and singing(!) – all Numeracy based!
All of S1 participated enthusiastically, and were delighted with a surprise visit from ‘Numeracy Man’ and an early visit from Santa!
A group of our S1 pupils took on the challenge to design and build an emergency shelter for a disaster zone.
They spent time in the Business department researching ideas and good shapes for their construction, before going to Maths to cost their resources and construct their model.
Well done to the winning team, but congratulations due to all who participated with such enthusiasm and imagination!
Two very talented sisters recently excelled in their graded music exams.
Magdalena Hubbard-Perez (S4) passed both her Grade 5 piano and Grade 6 oboe with distinction.
Laura Hubbard-Perez (S1) passed her Grade 3 bassoon exam also with distinction. What a fantastic achievement for both girls!
A number of our pupils took part in the North Lanarkshire Bands Christmas Concert on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 December at the Civic Centre in Motherwell.
Pupils have been rehearsing since October and their hard work truly paid off. It was a wonderful evening full of amazing music and fantastic performances. Congratulations to all involved!
Some of our Pastoral Youth Group accepted a very worthwhile challenge from SCIAF. Based on the parable of the talents (where the workers doubled their talents which pleased God) pupils were challenged to raise twice as much money for SCIAF from an initial £50 which was provided to them.
Our pupils used the money to buy hot chocolate, juice and cakes to sell at the staff v pupils football game on St Andrew’s day. It was a bright crisp afternoon with temperatures below zero. The refreshments were warmly received and the group were kept very busy.
The total raised by this group for this initiative was £250….5 times their initial £50. Well done to all involved!
