St Andrew’s Confucius Classroom Launch

St Andrew’s Confucius Classroom Launch

On Thursday 24 May, pupils from Our Lady’s High supported one of our cluster Primary Schools, St Andrew’s, in the launch of their Confucius Classroom.

The event was officially opened and closed by our exceptionally talented bag piper Thelen McIntyre. In addition, our professional in-house ribbon dancers delighted the audience with their very colourful and energetic ribbon dance! Our Chinese teacher, Miss Li performed Chinese Tea Ceremony and explained the traditions and processes of the ceremony. A great morning was had by all!

S2 M&Ds Celebrating Success Trip

On Thursday 24 May 35 selected pupils from S2 spent the day at North Lanarkshire’s Celebrating Success Day at M&D’s Theme Park.

The pupils were rewarded for their excellent attendance, behaviour and effort throughout S2.

The pupils were a real credit to the school as their behaviour on the day was fantastic.

Everyone had a fabulous day on the rides and very much enjoyed the sunshine and churros!

S3 Football

Tough luck on our S3 boys football team on Wednesday 16 May as they lost 5-1 (Matthew Smith) to Duncanrig in the Liveston Cup semi-final. Well done to the boys on reaching the semi-final as progressing through the competition to this stage is certainly no disgrace.

Unfortunately they also lost their semi-final league play-off against St Ambrose 3-2. The defeat brought to an end an excellent season for the team. They won their league section, reached 2 semi-finals and got to the 4th round of the Scottish Cup. The boys deserve enormous credit for their efforts and they can be very proud of their achievements this season.

S1/2 Premiership Experience

S1/2 Premiership Experience

20 boys had a fantastic opportunity to attend two Premier League football matches and participate in a number of pre and post match activities on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 May.

On Saturday the boys were in attendance at the bottom of the league clash between Stoke City and Crystal Palace at the bet365 Stadium. With both sides needing a win to survive relegation the atmosphere was electric, an experience the boys thoroughly enjoyed!

The boys then visited the Trafford Shopping Centre and Bolton Wanderers Stadium before a game of ten pin bowling in the evening.

The following day the boys were able to explore and get involved in the famous Manchester City Football Academy before sitting back to watch Manchester City v Huddersfield. With Manchester City in flying form and chasing the record of 100 league points, as well as Huddersfield fighting relegation the game was very exciting! Manchester City also had the Premier League trophy presented to them at full time – an excellent experience at the Etihad stadium!

S3 Hospitality Butchery and Beyond Competition

S3 Hospitality Butchery and Beyond Competition

Working in partnership with FDF (Food and Drink Federation) Scotland, S Collins and Sons Butchers and Quality Meat Scotland, S3 Hospitality pupils participated in an inter-schools ‘Butchery and Beyond’ competition.

The aim was to improve their understanding of job and career opportunities available in the food and drink sector, and skills required by employers.

Pupils were asked to develop a new street food using meat provided by Collins’ butchers. The winning group from OLHS, Tea Boyd, Elise Congalton, Megan MacCrimmon and Ciaran MacIntyre, designed a recipe called ‘Spicy Pork Pinwheels’ with sweet chilli sauce. The winning group have been invited along to the Royal Highland Show in June, to participate in the final between OLHS, St. Ninians and Kirkintilloch High.

Good luck to our team from OLHS!

Farewell to our S6! 27 April represented the last school day for our S6 students. To mark this memorable occasion parents and pupils joined us for an awards ceremony, staff and pupil coffee morning and Holy Mass with Father McKay, our school chaplain and Father Campbell from Sacred Heart and St Lucy’s Parishes.

In the afternoon a trip to Air Space in East Kilbride was arranged which the sixth years thoroughly enjoyed. We wish all our leavers every success in their exams and future pathway post school, and look forward to hearing how well they are all doing in the future.

Chinese New Year 2018 – Year of the Dog

Chinese New Year 2018 – Year of the Dog

On Wednesday 28 March, Our Lady’s High School celebrated Chinese New Year, a bit later than expected due to the snow!

Approximately 80 S1 and S3 pupils took part in a broad range of Chinese cultural activities such as ribbon dancing, tangrams, tea ceremony, Origami, checkers, chopsticks as well as biscuit decorating and calligraphy.

Each pupil sampled the broad spectrum of activities on offer spending time at each of the stations. All of the pupils who had attended the Edinburgh Zoo Confucius Classroom Open Day in February were leaders at each of the workshops demonstrating and modelling the activities to their peers.  Pupils had a wonderful morning with ribbon dancing, tea ceremony and biscuit making being a massive hit!! In addition, staff also celebrated Chinese New Year with a beautiful Chinese lunch served by our senior pupils! 新年快乐 / 新年快樂
