We aim to project Mathematics as a positive and enjoyable experience as well as an important part of the curriculum by:

ensuring pupils are taught the mathematical and numerical skills required for life, learning, employment and further study.

providing each pupil with the mathematical and numerical skills required for progression in other curriculum areas.

ensuring pupils understand the importance of Mathematics and the role it plays in the world around them.

encouraging pupils’ confidence, engagement and enjoyment in Mathematics

supporting every pupil to progress and achieve to the best of their ability in mathematics.

Broad General Education (BGE) topics covered:

Pupils progress through BGE at an appropriate level and pace.

Almost all pupils will have experienced and achieved Third Level by end of S3, and many will have experience at Fourth Level before progression to Senior Phase in S4.

A small number will consolidate Second level in S1 to improve progression to Third level.

Pupils’ experiences are enhanced by a number of year group and whole school events including Numeracy Week, Pi Day, Numeracy Games Olympiad.

In S2 pupils have an additional period where they focus on Numeracy across Learning, Life and Work.

Homework is an integral part of learning experiences and enhances progress at all levels.
