Brief Summary and Aims
Welcome to Our Lady’s High School Department of English and Literacy. We are a hard-working, knowledgeable, caring, and friendly team whose ultimate aim is for all pupils to achieve excellence during their time spent with us.  We strive to achieve this through: 
  • Providing a challenging and engaging curriculum 
  • Having high expectations of all whilst supporting individual learning needs 
  • Tracking and monitoring progress in order to inform next steps  
  • Promoting positive relationships with a focus on health and wellbeing  
  • Providing opportunities for wider achievement

Subjects/Courses
S1-3 Broad General Education
The course in S1-3 is carefully planned to ensure that the key knowledge, skills and attributes of  Curriculum for Excellence are covered over the course of each year. An ongoing programme of assessment is built in to each course in order to establish pupil progress and guide them towards their next steps.
S4-6 Senior Phase
National 4, National 5, and Higher courses are available for all senior pupils. For those who wish to extend their studies in S6, NPA Level 6 Journalism and Advanced Higher English are also available. Pupils are assessed and given feedback throughout the year and are prepared thoroughly for the SQA exams.

  • Personal Reading (fiction and non-fiction)
  • Broadly Creative Writing (personal reflective, imaginative and descriptive)
  • Broadly Discursive Writing (report, argumentative and persuasive)
  • Critical Listening (range of film, TV and media sources)
  • Presentation (group and individual)
  • Discussion and debate (smaller group and larger group/class)
