Anti-Bullying Week 13 – 17 November

Anti-Bullying Week 13 – 17 November

Our Lady’s High School celebrated Anti-Bullying Week by incorporating this theme into all lessons for pupils in S1-S3. We focused on the theme of bullying and the impact of these behaviours.

In English, pupils focused on an anti-bullying poem and produced ‘blackout poems’ of their own to demonstrate their understanding of the subject. Two senior pupils presented a powerpoint on the topic of ‘Discrimination’ in History, whilst learning about the Holocaust. In Art and Design pupils produced powerful posters developing their skills in freehand sketching and ‘Cyber-Bullying’ was the topic covered in Technical and ICT classes. In the Music department, pupils also wrote and produced a musical rap covering the theme of bullying.

S3 Girls Fire Reach

S3 Girls Fire Reach

Congratulations to  Jodie Beattie, Amy Devlin, Olivia Graham,  Emily Johnstone, Chloe Paterson and Lisa Sherry – our six S3 girls who completed their Fire Reach training last week at Coatbridge Fire Station.

Over the week the girls learned all about fire safety in the community and team building skills for the work place. They trained with girls from Greenfaulds High School and together they exhibited all their new skills and abilities at a display at the fire station. The display included rescuing people from a road traffic incident, and also saving a family from a burning building. The girls put on a very well drilled and impressive display!

There was a separate workshop on animation and how to gain entry into the first year of an Honours Degree Course whether your interest is in Graphic Design, Fine Art Printmaking, Drawing & Painting and Sculpture.

Football Success for Jessica

Football Success for Jessica

Jessica Cox S2 and her Football team Glasgow Girls came runners up in the U14s Girls Scottish Cup Final.

Jessica and her team narrowly missed out on the cup to winners Motherwell F.C. in an extremely close game of 3-2. This is a fantastic achievement for Jessica and she continues to inspire girls in her year group to get involved in football.

Can you help?

Can you help?

This event contributes to the Scottish Government initiative ‘Developing the Young Workforce’ and enables our S3 pupils to talk to a range of representatives from the world of work about the activities, skills, qualities and knowledge required in a variety of workplaces. In addition, any applications of Numeracy skills can be discussed too.

Can you help? This is a great opportunity to inspire and motivate our young people as they begin to make important decisions about their future. The event is a speed networking event, involving conversations with groups of around 5 pupils..

If you would like to be involved or for more information, please get in touch with Mrs Hood or Mrs Dunbar.
