S3 Numeracy for Work Event

S3 Numeracy for Work Event

S3 pupils took part in our Numeracy for Work Event. We were delighted to be joined by 30 representatives from industry who spoke to pupils about their jobs, the skills and qualities required and practical applications of Numeracy.

The representatives ranged from Cumbernauld Airport to retailers, surgeons and engineers. This was part of the Curriculum for Excellence Numeracy Across Learning in conjunction with the Scottish Government’s ‘Developing Young Workforce’ initiative. The pupils had a great afternoon and found it very informative. A big thank you to all our participants who made it such a great success!

A group of our S1 pupils took on the challenge to design and build an emergency shelter for a disaster zone.

They spent time in the Business department researching ideas and good shapes for their construction, before going to Maths to cost their resources and construct their model.

Well done to the winning team, but congratulations due to all who participated with such enthusiasm and imagination!

Faith in Action

Faith in Action

Some of our Pastoral Youth Group accepted a very worthwhile challenge from SCIAF. Based on the parable of the talents (where the workers doubled their talents which pleased God) pupils were challenged to raise twice as much money for SCIAF from an initial £50 which was provided to them.

Our pupils used the money to buy hot chocolate, juice and cakes to sell at the staff v pupils football game on St Andrew’s day. It was a bright crisp afternoon with temperatures below zero. The refreshments were warmly received and the group were kept very busy.

The total raised by this group for this initiative was £250….5 times their initial £50. Well done to all involved!
