S3 Football

S3 Football

Tough luck on our S3 boys football team on Wednesday 16 May as they lost 5-1 (Matthew Smith) to Duncanrig in the Liveston Cup semi-final. Well done to the boys on reaching the semi-final as progressing through the competition to this stage is certainly no disgrace.

Unfortunately they also lost their semi-final league play-off against St Ambrose 3-2. The defeat brought to an end an excellent season for the team. They won their league section, reached 2 semi-finals and got to the 4th round of the Scottish Cup. The boys deserve enormous credit for their efforts and they can be very proud of their achievements this season.

S1/2 Premiership Experience

S1/2 Premiership Experience

20 boys had a fantastic opportunity to attend two Premier League football matches and participate in a number of pre and post match activities on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 May.

On Saturday the boys were in attendance at the bottom of the league clash between Stoke City and Crystal Palace at the bet365 Stadium. With both sides needing a win to survive relegation the atmosphere was electric, an experience the boys thoroughly enjoyed!

The boys then visited the Trafford Shopping Centre and Bolton Wanderers Stadium before a game of ten pin bowling in the evening.

The following day the boys were able to explore and get involved in the famous Manchester City Football Academy before sitting back to watch Manchester City v Huddersfield. With Manchester City in flying form and chasing the record of 100 league points, as well as Huddersfield fighting relegation the game was very exciting! Manchester City also had the Premier League trophy presented to them at full time – an excellent experience at the Etihad stadium!

S3 Hospitality Butchery and Beyond Competition

S3 Hospitality Butchery and Beyond Competition

Working in partnership with FDF (Food and Drink Federation) Scotland, S Collins and Sons Butchers and Quality Meat Scotland, S3 Hospitality pupils participated in an inter-schools ‘Butchery and Beyond’ competition.

The aim was to improve their understanding of job and career opportunities available in the food and drink sector, and skills required by employers.

Pupils were asked to develop a new street food using meat provided by Collins’ butchers. The winning group from OLHS, Tea Boyd, Elise Congalton, Megan MacCrimmon and Ciaran MacIntyre, designed a recipe called ‘Spicy Pork Pinwheels’ with sweet chilli sauce. The winning group have been invited along to the Royal Highland Show in June, to participate in the final between OLHS, St. Ninians and Kirkintilloch High.

Good luck to our team from OLHS!
