Higher Drama pupils made their annual trip to the theatre to help them prepare for their SQA exam. They attended The Tron Theatre in Glasgow to see ‘The Alchemist’. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed watching the performance and then had the opportunity to take part in a workshop exploring the characters and storyline. A fantastic time was had by all.
S1 and S3 pupils in Art & Design have been working on their Road Safety posters highlighting the importance of how to stay safe when crossing the road. A number of S1 and S3 pupil work pieces have been entered into the NLC competition. We wish our young people well in this competition.
A number of S6 pupils have been trained as MVP mentors and they will be delivering workshops to S2 pupils around the themes of bullying and gender-based violence. These sessions will be running in November and January and each S2 class will take part in 4 different workshops. The S6 MVP mentors are looking forward to using their training to benefit others. Our annual Celebrating Success Ceremony for senior pupils took place on Wednesday 25 September where pupils were recognised for both their academic and wider achievements.
Our guest speaker was Professor John Paul Leach who is Head of Undergraduate Medicine at the University of Glasgow, Consultant Neurologist and also a former pupil of OLHS ! We are very grateful for his inspirational words. We were also joined by Mrs Ellen Burton who gave many years of dedicated service to the students of Our Lady’s.

Our S6 Caritas pupils visited St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Glasgow to venerate the relics of St. Therese of Lisieux. The pupils enjoyed a very peaceful and prayerful visit accompanied by Mrs Cowie and Mrs Callaghan.
We have a number of spaces available on our brass and woodwind instructors’ timetables, and you could be one of the people who benefit from this! We are looking for enthusiastic people to start lessons as soon as possible, and here’s why it’s right for you:
Learn a new skill – reading and playing a musical instrument is a skill you will have for life.
Improve your concentration and achievement in all your subjects – music helps you focus on your work.
Learn a load of transferrable skills – communication, listening, evaluating, confidence, resilience… the list goes on!

On the morning of Thursday 26 September, nine S1 pupils attended a North Lanarkshire wide event in St. Ambrose High School, Coatbridge. They heard speeches from Master of Ceremonies, the author and publisher Keith Charters; Head of Service Anne Munroe; and Terry Cowan from the Literacy and Numeracy base. They were also treated to music from St. Ambrose pupils. The main event was a talk from Dan Freedman, author of the Jamie Johnson football fiction series and more, in which he described how he struggled with reading at school, and got into writing because of a frustration with the lack of sports fiction for young people. His message to our young people was not to be disheartened if English and reading are not particular strengths – persevere and a career in writing is still very much an option. He also answered some audience questions, and each pupil in attendance received a signed book from him. Thank you to the NLC Read to Succeed committee for organising – it was a fantastic morning and our pupils had great fun!
A Coffee Morning was held for both staff and students on Thursday 26 September for MacMillan Cancer Support. The event was organised and run by an S6 Personal Development class. There was a fantastic turnout and great fun was had by all. As a result, a total of £503.02 was raised from the event, all of which will go straight to the charity.
The event also included the Great Department Bake Off, with the Maths Department taking 1st Prize, but who will win next time?
