SCHOOL NEWS

SCOTTISH SPACE SCHOOL

Fantastic news for Evie Clark who was recently successful in her application for the Scottish Space School this year. It is a great achievement and Evie was up against some exceptional competition from across Scotland in order to even progress to this stage. She will now spend time at Strathclyde University working alongside other successful candidates and professional engineers and Scientists and compete to win a place on the trip to NASA in Houston. All at Greenfaulds are extremely proud of Evie in her achievement and wish her the best of luck in the next stage. Well done Evie.

GEOGRAPHY

On Wednesday 14th March a variety of Geography pupils took part in workshops provided by GeoBus. For Higher pupils, this included looking at hydrographs whereas for S1 and S3 this focused on monitoring volcanoes. On behalf of the school we would like to thank GeoBus for engaging pupils in Geography and providing them with a fun experience. Thanks to all staff who volunteered to help as well. It was an enjoyable experience had by all!!

ART & DESIGN

Harry McCafferty S3 has been selected as one of 6 finalists in the Strathcarron Hospice Design a Pendant competition. There were 310 entrants so Harry has done really well to have had his pendant design chosen. His design was based on a snowflake. The winning design will be announced at a special lunch for the finalists at Strathcarron Hospice on the 19th March.

S3 PARENT’S NIGHT

Please note that there is an S3 Parent’s Evening which will take place on Tuesday 20th March. This will start at 4:15pm and finish at 6:45pm.

EASTER SCHOOL

Pupils will soon be issued with letters detailing all information regarding the upcoming Greenfaulds Easter School Event. Further information regarding this will also be available over the next few weeks. Easter School provides an excellent opportunity for pupils to receive additional supported study in the run up to the SQA exams.

SCHOOL CLUBS

Departments and staff within Greenfaulds High School offer a range of school clubs throughout the year to challenge and inspire our pupils. With many practical, recreational and educational clubs taking place there is sure to be something that will interest all of our pupils. GEOBUS

On Wednesday 14th March, GeoBus will be coming into the school to work with a range of year groups on different Geographical themes.

HOUSE CHARITIES

On Thursday, 8th March Greenfaulds High invited in a number of our House Charities to receive their share of funds raised. During our recent charity event the pupils and staff of Greenfaulds managed to raise over £3391.55. The money has been split equally between all the house Charities. The receiving charities were Redburn School, Single Parent Families, The Alpha Project, Bumblebee Babies, Rascals, Mavisbank School, Kilsyth Food Bank and Cornerstone Food Bank. A big thank you to everyone who donated.

Monday 5th March

The Condorrat entrance (back gate) remains closed, Athelstane and Scott Drive footpaths are open and clear. The Athelstane drop off point is closed to cars and the road gates are closed.

The access road to school is clear and the main carpark has been cleared of snow.

The playground is still full of snow and we would encourage pupils to stay indoors today.

We expect school transport to run as normal.

NLC School Closure-Friday

Please note all NLC schools will remain closed on Friday due to the adverse weather conditions. Further updates as we receive information.

CUPID STRIKES EARLY AT GREENFAULDS HIGH SCHOOL!

This Valentine’s Day came early for the staff and pupils of Greenfaulds High school. Four of the school’s Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award group organised the sale of roses, messages and chocolates that were delivered during period 1 on Friday 9th February to the unsuspecting recipients around the school! The team of S4 pupils (Jack Guild, Tara McGinley, Erika Anderson and Teigan Burns) managed to raise £120 for their efforts that they then chose to donate to Redburn School.

On Wednesday 14th March, GeoBus will be coming into the school to work with a range of year groups on different Geographical themes.

SAPHIR WORKSHOP

A number of pupils recently took part in an employability workshop. The workshop looked at the following: Skills identification and evidencing skills, the perfect CV and how to draw attention to yourself, typical modern interview questions, handling rejection, S1 job statistics, and a mock assessment observed exercise. A very worthwhile exercise for our workforce of tomorow.
