Broad General Education S1 to S3
Science is important in our lives at work, at leisure and in the home. Our pupils are becoming increasingly aware of the impact of science on their own health and on the environment. Through the Curriculum for Excellence, pupils will build up their understanding of important scientific concepts and develop a lifelong interest in science through five organisers:
Planet Earth
Forces, electricity and waves
Biological systems
Materials
Topical science
Within each organiser, pupils will experiment and investigate to solve problems and challenges. As they progress from S1 to S3 they will experience and develop practical skills through experimental and investigative learning with opportunities to ask questions, hypothesise, plan and carry out experiments, select equipment, measure, collect and record evidence, analyse, draw conclusions, present results, report findings and evaluate procedures.

Senior Phase S4 to S6
The courses and units offered at the senior stage in Science will include progression and depend on the achievements and ability of the individual pupil. In S4, pupils will initially undertake SQA units which could potentially lead to the completion of an SQA National Award. Progression could involve lateral steps to other National 1, 2 and 3 units or more advanced units.
As pupils progress through the Senior Phase, there may be the opportunity to undertake units relating to environmental education at different levels including an Eco Awareness unit at National 1 and 2 as part of the Personal Achievement Award and a National 3 Environmental Science unit. Course and units could include:
National 1 – Freestanding Units
Energy
Living Things
Materials
Nature and the Environment
Reduce, Re-use and Recycle
National 1 and 2 – Units from Personal Achievement Award
Eco-Awareness
National 2 – Science in the Environment Course Award
Living Things
Resources, Forces and Energy
Sustainable Lifestyles
National 3 – Science Course Award
