Welcome to the Department

All staff, in every school, have a responsibility for the Health and Wellbeing of the pupils. In addition to this, PSHE classes deliver a more focussed approach to the Curriculum for Excellence Health and Wellbeing guidelines.

Departmental Aims

The aim of this department is to ensure an effective and appropriate education in Health and Wellbeing is delivered to all pupils, keeping within national and local guidelines and within the aims of Firpark Secondary School.

The Department seeks to promote the health and wellbeing of all pupils by helping them to:

Make informed decisions in order to improve their emotional, mental, social and physical wellbeing
Experience challenge and enjoyment
Experience positive aspects of healthy living for themselves
Apply their emotional, mental, social and physical wellbeing to pursue a healthy lifestyle
Establish a pattern of health and wellbeing to take into adult life.

Curriculum for Excellence

The main areas covered in PSHE throughout all year groups targeted at the appropriate level for each class are:

Planning for choices and changes
Substance misuse
Relationships, sexual health and parenthood
Mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing

S1-3 Broad and General Education & S4 – 6 Senior Phase Education

PSHE in every year is divided into the areas below but the list is not exhaustive. Within each area, young people are taught appropriately for their age and stage.
