The Science Centre

Last Week we were very busy. We had our school trip to the Science Centre. We went on the trip with Primary 1b. We focused on learning about day and night, but we also got to explore lots of other things.

Leah “We went to the planetarium and we got to see stars.”

Hannah “We got to see the North Star, it wasn’t as bright as we thought it would be.”

Mya “We got to see the moon and lots of planets.”

Skye “We got to see Mars and Pluto  but we found out Pluto is too small to be a planet, it is called a dwarf planet.”

Aidan ” One of the planets we saw was called Jupiter.”

Cara “There was lots of people on the trip.”

Bradley “We got to build lots of things when we were there.”

Poppy “I loved everything at the science centre.”

 

Children in Need

We had a great day dressing up for Children in need. We were learning about why we were raising money and had lots of fun doing.

Archie “We were raising money for people who aren’t as lucky as us.”

Poppy “We got to get our nails painted.”

Zak “We got our faces painted.”

Kayla “We got to draw and colour pictures of Pudsey.”

Halloween

We all had a super time at the Halloween disco. Miss Nisbet loved seeing all of our costumes.

Luke “My favourite part of the disco was dressing up.”

Hannah “I liked Skye’s costume it had a nice hair band.”

Bradley “My favourite part was dancing to the ‘baby shark’ song.

We have also been busy in class making lots of Halloween decorations.

Poppy  “We have made some scary spiders, we had to paint them and stick legs on.”

Archie “We also made some pumpkins”.

 

Maths

Aidan “We have been learning to add numbers together using a plus sign.”

Kara “Numbers get bigger when we add them together.”

Aaron “When you add you can use your hands or the machine if you have one.”

Ty “We made some lanterns because in the story the lanterns helped to show people how to get home.”

Primary 1 Committee

Committees

This week primary 1a and primary 1b had their first committee. We focused on getting to know Chryston Primary.

Aaron “We went on a hunt round the school, we had to find lots of different places.”

Ty ” We went to the office and we saw Mrs Mclaren.”

Skye “We went to primary 6 and 7s hut, it was outside!”

Poppy “We got to go into  Primary 1bs class and had lots of fun in their classroom.”

Laptops

This week we also went on the laptops for the first time! We are learning about how to switch the laptop on and off properly and how to navigate the mouse! It is quite tricky, but we did a great job!

Hannah “This week we got to go on the laptops.”

Mya “We had to pick colours and draw a picture using the laptop.”

Bradley “It was tricky because you couldn’t touch the screen you had to use the mouse.”

 

Primary 1 Hard at Work

Maths

This week primary 1 have been learning about pattern. We know that there is lots of different ways we can make patterns.  We have been making patterns when we dance and when we sing, we have also been making pattern with the jigsaws, bears and beads. Have a look at us hard at work!

Health

Primary 1a and primary 1b also had a special visitor to our class today. A dental nurse came to talk to us about how to keep our teeth clean and she showed us different equipment they used at the dentist. We even got to take some new toothbrushes home with us!

Literacy

This week we have been doing a fantastic job with our reading. We love getting new books each week. Some of us have been busy doing cut up sentences, we could spot some of our common words in these sentences.

Our New Sound

This week we have been learning the sound ‘p’. We know that this sound is in lots of words, like pirate, panda and police. We enjoyed singing out jolly phonics song about ‘p’ where we got to pretend it was our birthday and we puffed out the candles on our pretend cake.

We have been using our magnetic boards to write the sound ‘p’, we have even been making some words with p, like tap and pat.

We have also been very busy practising our numbers. We have been working hard putting our numbers into the correct order some of us having been ordering our numbers up to 10 and as an extra challenge some of us have been doing it all the way up to 20! We are also very good at telling you what number comes before and what number comes after!

Maths Week

This week was ‘Maths Week’ so primary 1 a have been very busy doing lots of Maths. Our main focus was learning about different times of the day. We looked at the story ‘Diary of a Wombat’. We acted out things we would do at different times of the day and our partner had to guess if it was mornng, afternoon, evening or night time. We had to sort pictures into the right part of the day, we practised making the days of the week with playdoh, we had to sequence parts of the story and we have been busy doing our calendar every day. We have also been writing about different things we do during the day.

As well as being busy learning all about time we have still been practising writing the number 4 and counting all the way up to 20. We have also been having lots of fun doing printing and building things like towers with different shapes.

 

 

Boxercise

Health

This morning Primary 1a have had a very exciting morning. We had a special visitor who came in to teach us all about boxing and exercising. It was lots of fun! Here are some pictures of the action! #Chrystongoldgoals

In health we have also been learning about how some germs can make us sick. We did an experiment using glitter to show us how easily germs can spread. To stop germs spreading and making us feel sick we have been learning about the importance of washing our hands.

Literacy

We have learned a new sound this week ‘t’ we have been sorting pictures that start with t and a. We have also been practising writing our new sounds on our magnetic boards.

First Few Weeks of P1

Primary 1 have had a great start to the year! We have all settled in well and have enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends.

Literacy

So far in Primary 1 we have been learning about rhyming words, we know that cat rhymes with bat. We have also been reading lots of books that rhyme.

This week we have learned our first sound ‘a’. We love to sing our jolly phonics song about ‘ants on our arm’. We know lots of words that start with ‘a’ like apple and ant, we even have two boys in our class with ‘a’ at the start of their name.

Maths

We have been working hard in maths too. We have been singing lots of songs to help us count all the way up to 20 and we have been practising counting from 10 back to 0.

We have also been practising writing the numbers 0,1,2 and 3. We have learned lots of rhymes to help us write our numbers.

Health Week

Health Week

Primary 1 were very busy during health week and we had lots of fun.

Oscar “We went on a long walk and then we got to go to the park to play for a minute, I had fun.”

Aarnav ” We got to play on our scooters and bikes, I went super fast.”

Kacey “I went really really fast on my bike.”

Eilidh “We had so much fun on the bikes and scooters.”

Robbi  “On health week we got to make fruit smiley faces, we then got to eat them, it was delicious.”

Kirstyn “We had to cut up our fruit and vegetables with a sharp knife, Miss Nisbet had to help us.”

We also had sports day, lots of us won medals and lots of us got a stickers. We were all super stars and should be very proud of ourselves.

 

Maths

We have been learning all about capacity in maths.

Kasey “Capacity tells us how much something holds.”

Emilia “Sometimes we thought the tall one would hold the most but it didn’t because the tall one was thinner so it was smaller and the small wide one held more.”

Kirstyn “We made a big mess in our class when we were using water so we had to take it outside so it didn’t matter if it was messy.”
