Jumpstart Jonny

image image imageYesterday in PE we did some dancing routines to Jumpstart Jonny.  He is on the internet and showed us how to exercise to music.  The songs were really good and fun.  We felt hot, out of breath, our hearts were besting faster and we were tired – all signs we were exercising well!  We had great fun singing and dancing along.  We also did the cool down to a song from the lion king.  A cool down is important too!

Fruit kebabs

We have been learning how to keep our bodies healthy through food and exercise.  On Monday we made delicious fruit kebabs.  First we needed to remember the getting ready routine we learned last week.  We had to tie hair back, put aprons on, wash hands with soap and make sure the table we were using was cleaned with cleaner.

We used our bridge cut and claw cut to cut up the fruit to put on our kebabs.

They were yummy!

Our new topic

image image image image image image image image image

We started a new topic which is all about keeping healthy.

We talked about moving and thought of different ways we move without thinking about it.  Things like, climbing trees, playing, scootering to school, even just walking to go from one place to another!

We mimed some movements then we played a game where one person acted a movement and the others in the group guessed what we were doing.

Later in the week we started talking about healthy fruit.  We looks at the fruit and we learned where it came from.  Erin told us that the fruit we had needed to come from a hot country.

Our pineapple and bananas came from Costa Rico which is really far away….all the way over the sea in the same direction as America!  Our mango came from near there too, a country called Peru.  The oranges came from Spain and the Kiwi from Italy.

Next Mrs MacDonald showed us how to cut them up (we are going to do it next week!), and we got to taste them….mmmmmm!

Fair trade

We started our learning about fair trade today by using fair trade chocolate to make top hats to sell at our fundraiser tomorrow.

First we we had to wash our hands.  Then we put out the paper cases.  Next we broke up the chocolate and melted it in the microwave.  Then we put some chocolate in a paper case, added a marshmallow and then put a smartie on top!

After break we had a whole school assembly and a lady from the Co-op came to tell us all about things they sell that are fair trade.  They sell lots of fair  trade things like bananas, chocolate and coffee.

In the afternoon we learned about what fair trade means.  It means the people who work hard growing things get a fair amount of money. This means they can look after their family, send their children to school and use some money to help their business.  This makes them happy!

we made some fair trade products in art using collage!

Taste

Today we were learning about different tastes.  The four different tastes are sour, sweet, salty and bitter.

first we tried sour.  We had lemon, grapefruit, sour skittles and sour rainbow belts.  Sour made our faces laugh and scrunch up.  We liked the sour sweeties but not the lemon or grapefruit.

We tasted crisps with no salt and crisps with salt.  We liked the crisps with salt best.

For bitter we had some dark chocolate.  Some of us liked it and some thought it was just ok!

For sweet we ate some honey which was tasty.  We also had some normal milk chocolate.

We voted for what flavour was our favourite:

Sour – 8

imageSalty – 3

Bitter – 4

Sweet – 4

We made some funny faces when we were tasting today!!

Directions

We are learning to follow directions in maths.  We have been learning forwards, backwards, left turn and right turn.

we use the bee bots to practise, the gym hall and we learned a left right song in music!

we have to program the bee bots.  That means we give it a few directions and it follows them.

in gym we gave each other directions to follow.

Apples

image image image image

Today at fruit time, we didn’t just eat our apples, we used our senses to talk about them first.

Touch – some words we used to talk about what it felt like were hard, smooth, cold.

Sight – red, circles, spheres, shiny.

Smell – sweet, nice, juicy, fresh.

Taste – juicy, crunchy, sweet, yummy, delicious, nice.

Sound – they sound crunchy and are noisy!

Apples are healthy and good for you!!

Sound walk

We went on a sound walk inside and outside to listen for all the different things we could hear.

Before we went, we made listening ears!

We had to be very quiet to hear everything.

We heard some very quiet noises and some loud noises.

We made a list of things we heard inside and outside.  We have out a picture on but our list didn’t fit on one page!

We heard a siren and a plane when we were outside.  Teachers knocked on the window very loudly while we were outside!

We heard the radiators and scissors cutting inside.  We heard lots busy people in school.  Children were working and teachers were talking.

Snow fun

We built snowmen today. -Aydin

we liked building our snowmen. – Lewis

We went for a walk to see the other playgrounds and look for snowmen. – Erin

Primary 1 had lots of fun building snowmen. – Riley

This afternoon we went outside to play in the snow and build snowmen.  It was hard work, we were bending up and down and running all around to find things to help us make great snowmen. It was cold but were kept warm by moving around all the time!

Look at the pictures of the fun we had.
