Drama

Our reading group read the story of Pirate Pete keeps fit.  In the story Pirate Pete can’t button up his trousers. His tummy was too big.  Beaky the parrot helped Pirate Pete by showing him some exercises.  After he did his exercises he could button up his trousers.  But then he ripped his trousers at the bottom and we saw his green spotty underpants.

After we read the story we acted it out.  We showed our little shows to the rest of the class.

We thought their shows were funny.

I liked when his trousers got ripped. The shows made me laugh.

The actors and actresses had to be nice and clear when speaking.

The audience had to watch and listen carefully.

Our week

Wow, what a week…we’ve been busy bees in P1.

At the start of the week we planted seeds as part of our living things topic.  We learned what the seeds would need to survive and wrote about it.  We know  that the seeds will need water, light and air to grow and survive.  We also thought they would need our love and care!

we also started learning about symmetry in maths.  We made symmetrical butterflies for our living things wall by painting one wing of the butterfly then folding it over to make the other wing exactly the same.  Symmetry is like matching only the other way round.  The two sides are the same but one will be back to front of the other.  We also made symmetry patterns with pegs and with lots of art materials.

At the end of the week we were printing with the bottom of bottles.  We made lovely spring blossoms using beautiful spring colours.  They are up in our classroom and it looks very spring like!

this morning we watched the eclipse with P1/2.  It looked like the sun was actually the moon.  It looked like it was night time but it wasn’t!  We then used pastels to draw pictures of the eclipse!

Comic relief

Today was Red Nose Day.  We wore red to school and made our faces and hair funny!  Primary 3 started our fun day with their fabulous assembly when at the end we all sang the funny face song and took a whole school selfie!

Next we did some writing about comic relief on paper that had lots of red noses.  We drew brilliant pictures of our funny faces!

In the afternoon, this weeks Oscar winners in P1 and P1/2 painted Mrs MacDonald and Mrs Nobles faces!  One of the primary 2’s in Mrs Nobles class painted Mrs Woodwards face.

After that we designed our own red noses!

we ended our day with going to the bake sale.

What a fun day!!

Jam Sandwich

Yesterday in class Daryll made a jam sandwich! He wasn’t just hungry, it was so that we could see exactly what he did then we wrote the instructions for what he did.

when we write instructions we need to make sure we tell the reader exactly what to do. We use time words to tell them the order to do each instruction.

We are also always trying to remember our core targets; capital letters, finger spaces and full stops!

Sh

Now we know all our single letter sounds we have started learning joined phonemes. This is where two letter together make one sound.

Last week we learned sh. We thought of lots of words with sh in them and sounded them out. We tried to write them without looking!

Some of the words we thought of were shut, ship, shop, shed, shark, wash, sheep, dish, crash.

We played lots of games to help us with our spelling! Look at us learning…

Fun activities

We did some language games today.

One of the games we had to look at the picture and write the word. E picture might have been a pen so we blended our letters and sounded out pen. (Elli)

Another game was looking at the picture and matching the first sound to the right picture. (Evie)

One game gave us words and picture and we could copy the word and practise our handwriting. (Lewis)

The final game was the competition. We had to try to be the quickest team to sort the crackers into the right alphabet order, then we had to match the picture to the right cracker. (Ethan)

We had to work at a team and include everyone. We had lots of fun and it helped to practise our letter sounds.

Santa’s workshop

We have been having lots of fun learning in our class. We have made our classroom into santa’s workshop. One of the stations we can do it wrapping presents for Santa to put on his sleigh. We used our learning about shapes to design presents that boys and girls might like at Christmas time. We can go to the toys hop and there we learn to buy stuff. There are shopping lists and money and we can add prices together. There is a station where we can design and write a Christmas card.

Jaymi – I like learning in Santa’s workshop.

Michael – I loved designing a card.

Erin – I am looking forward to designing a card and writing a card.

David – I feel good when I come into the classroom because it is Christmassy and colourful!

Have a look at our picture gallery!

Robot Rumpus

This week we have been reading a book called Robot Rumpus by an author called Ross Collins. We did lots of activities using the book.

Mrs MacDonald read us the book but we also got to see the author reading e story for us on the smart board.

As a homework task some of us made robots…we have them in the class and they are brilliant. We also wrote a story about what we would like a robot to do for us!

We did some drama and pretended to be robots.

We thought about healthy food to eat so we could tell cook-bot and he could make healthy meals.

We wrote review of our favourite part of the story. Lots of us found the story really funny.

Look at some of the pictures of our work!

Day and night

We started a new topic called day and night. We bought about how we know it is daytime and how we know it is night time.

The moon and stars come out and night and the sun goes down.

I go out and play with friends in the day time.

The sun is out in the day time.

Owls come out at night.

We learned about animals that come out at night. They are called nocturnal animals then we made owls.

We made beautiful day and night sky’s and wrote about them.
