On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th June 2018 our S2 pupils attended Grangemouth Stadium for this years Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships.
This was the first year this school has competed in this event! Our pupils ran very well in their age groups and were up against the best of the best that Scotland has to offer at these age groups.
Group D Boys – Luke Anderson was 5th in the 100m heat running a time of 13.77seconds
Group D Girls – Eilidh Shaw was 3rd in her heat of the 1500m gaining an automatic qualification for the final in a time of 5.13.61. Eilidh a very gutsy final and placed 11th in Scotland in the rain and thunder.
Group C Boys – Daniel Menzies was 7th in the 100m heat running a time of 13.67seconds.
Group C Girls – Emily Arthur placed 6th in the 800m heat running a time of 2.47.30.
This was a fantastic day out for the club and all should be so proud of their achievements!
Last Thursday a group from Airdrie Academy visited Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp in Poland. This was part of the Lessons from Auschwitz Project run by the Holocaust Educational Trust. They attended seminars both beforehand and to follow up on the visit, all with the aim of commemorating the survivors of the Holocaust and educating us on the importance of keeping their testimonies alive. The girls were an absolute credit to the school, showing maturity beyond their years and are now Holocaust Educational Trust Ambassadors – an esteemed title.
