The rights respecting school pupil and teacher group have been working hard promoting RRS article awareness over the past few months.
In support of the group Airdrie Academy will be holding a Rights Respecting School day on Friday 14th February. On this day you are invited to take part in a dress down day – free of charge! We ask – if possible – that students try to wear an item of blue clothing to show their support to the group.
We also invite all pupils and staff to take part in our RRS pledge, also on the 14th Feb. This will be in the assembly hall at interval and lunch time. Students will be asked to choose an article or right which is important to them and write about where they experience this in their school.
We look forward to reading your pledges and seeing everyone wearing blue!!
Following on from our Literacy Festival, we are hoping to gain some feedback from the event and would be delighted if S1-3 pupils would take the time to complete the survey below:
On Wednesday 30st of October, two teams represented Airdrie Academy at the West of Scotland Heat of the Kids Lit Quiz held at The High School of Glasgow.
The Kids Lit Quiz is an annual global literature quiz with the winning team from each heat competing in a National Final. National champions then compete in the World Final.
Both teams worked very hard to prepare for the event and did very well on the day. Although we didn’t make the top three, the final result was close. Pupils also had the pleasure of meeting Quiz Master Wayne Mills and had the opportunity to purchase a book by visiting authors Elizabeth Wein (Code Name Verity, Black Dove White Raven), Alex Nye (For My Sins), Victoria Gemmell (Follow Me), Lindsay Littleson (Guardians of the Wild Unicorns, The Titanic Detective Agency) and Ross Sayers (Mary’s the Name, Sonny and Me).
The day was a fabulous celebration of books and reading and the pupils were a credit to the school.
A great write-up in the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser about our Mental Health Festival.
Thank you to our partners for making this such a sucess:
