Last Thursday a group from Airdrie Academy visited Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp in Poland. This was part of the Lessons from Auschwitz Project run by the Holocaust Educational Trust. They attended seminars both beforehand and to follow up on the visit, all with the aim of commemorating the survivors of the Holocaust and educating us on the importance of keeping their testimonies alive. The girls were an absolute credit to the school, showing maturity beyond their years and are now Holocaust Educational Trust Ambassadors – an esteemed title.
To follow up to the visit, the group now have a responsibility to share and pass on what they have learned, and are hoping to tie this in with Holocaust Memorial Day in January and beyond.
