S3 Health and Food Technology pupils invited residents from the local sheltered housing complexes to come along to Airdrie Academy just before Christmas for lunch and afternoon entertainment. It was a brilliant afternoon attended by over 30 residents from several complexes. This event was part of the pupils’ CREST project where they are aiming to be awarded the bronze level award. Pupils carried out a food science related project where they investigated the nutritional needs of elderly people and developed their own products based on their findings.
A great selection of lunch items were served: home made beef broth soup, salmon and filo parcels, a range of high fibre sandwiches, fruit filled freshly made crepes and also wholemeal chocolate brownies.
The event was opened by a group of pipers and further entertainment was provided by the Performing Arts Department which involved many musical sketches from the school’s recent carol concert and pantomime.
