End of Term

To celebrate the end of a busy term all children can come to school tomorrow in non-uniform. Don’t forget we close at 2.30pm for the holidays and return on Monday 18th April.

Have a safe and lovely break.

World Book Day

We all had a great day yesterday celebrating World Book Day. All the children and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters for the day. In the lead up to the event the children were very busy being authors and illustrators to create their own class book. Each book was presented to the rest of the school at assembly this morning. We also had a book swap event in each class where children swapped books with each other to take home and read. Thank you to all the parents and carers who helped the children to dress up for the occassion. Primary 6 – Gymnastics

As part of our learning in PE Primary 6 have been learning about the skills related to gymnastics. We have learned various ways to incorporate travel, balance, flight and rotation into our movements. We experienced each of these on a variety of equipment and explored using different parts of our bodies to make the movements. We combined them together to make a short routine on each piece of equipment to present to each other. We gave each other feedback in the form of 2 stars and a wish.

Budding Bakers!

Whilst learning about Scotland Primary 4 had the opportunity to make some yummy shortbread of their own. They had to learn how to read from a recipe, measure out ingredients and combine them together to make a dough. Thwy worked in groups and all had a turn doing all of the jobs. The dinner ladies very kindly baked the shortbread in the oven and in the afternoon the boys and girls got to sample some of their delicious creations alongside some other traditional Scottish foods.image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image

Tidiest Class of the Week Award

Congratulations to Miss Rintoul and Primary 1/2 for winning the first tidiest class of the week award. Mrs Greer is picking a special secret agent every week to go round all of the classes and spy on them to see who is keeping their class tidy and organised. The winning class get a trophy and the teacher gets a medal to wear for the week. image

Scots Poetry

Primary 7 have been exploring Scots’ Poetry this term. Each of us studied a Burn’s poem in great detail and had to learn this so that we could recite this in class. The focus poems this year were Red Red Rose, Sic a Wife A Willie Had, Tae A Mouse and Address to The Haggis. By the end of our learning every pupil was able to recite part or all of their poems. This was quite a challenge as many of the Scots words have fallen from our day to day language and therefore the words were difficult to recognise and pronounce. As ususal we entered into the Newarthill Bowling Club Burns Competion and so auditions were held in school judged by Mr Kelly and Mrs Greer. The standard was exceptional and this made the job very difficult for the judges but three Primary 7 pupils were chosen to represent the school Kelsey Hulme, Zoe Marcell and Adam Skeleton, all of whom were outstanding on the night. Adam was chosen by the Burns Society judges as the overall winner but Mrs McKay commented that every pupil in Primary 7 has something to be very proud of as they gave 100% effort in learning and reciting their poems in and out of school .

Topic

\

Our class have been studying Natural Disasters as our Term 3 topic. This has created a great deal of enthusiasm and desire to learn about this fascinating subject. Pupils have worked in trios to investigate allocated disasters and then presente their findings to the class. This has developed our presentation skills as well as our ICT skills in research and power-points. We have recreated artwork entitled ‘Eye of the Storm’ which has developed our skills in applying technique and media. The study has made us aware of current affairs and we have had to report on real life Natural Disastsers which are occurring around the world such as Storm Getrude, floods in England and the most recent earthquake in Taiwan. We are using our knowledge to help write setting descriptions of earthquakes, volcanic eruption and the experience of being in an Avalanche. We are very proud of our work in this area and this is proudly displayed on our Learning Wall in the Senior Corridor.

Reindeer Wonderland

Primary 4 set up their shop called Reindeer Wonderland on Thursday. They had been very busy making all their products over the past few weeks and were excited by the great turnout they had from customers. They made Christmas cards, magic reindeer dust, edible reindeer noses and reindeer poop (don’t worry, it was just pretend!). To date out profit is exactly ÂŁ100!! We still have a few items left which will be on sale again on Monday. Thank you so much to all of the customers who bought some of our items. All the profits we made are going to be donated to Yorkhill Hospital. image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image
