The Parent Council
We have a very supportive and hard working Parent Council which works in partnership with the school to develop links between home and school and encourage parental involvement. The parents run events to put towards school funds and they also discos for the pupils. It is North Lanarkshire Policy that parents helping at school events have Disclosure Scotland. A contract of behaviour and parent support has been drawn up by the parents to ensure the health and safety for the children attending the discos. Emergency contact numbers are also asked for. Our Parent Council has a notice board giving information relating to the Council and minutes of meetings. Meeting are held monthly and any parents are invited to attend.
The present Parent Council in Keir Hardie Memorial Primary School and Nursery Class comprises the following:-

The Parent Council’s rights and duties include:-
- supporting the work of the school:
- representing the views of parents;
- consulting with parents and reporting back to the Parent Forum on matters of interest;
- promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and the wider community;
- fundraising;
- taking part in the selection of senior promoted staff;
- receiving reports from the Head Teacher and Education Authority;
- receiving an annual budget for administration, training and other expenses;
- improving home school partnership and facilitating parental involvement
Members of Parent Councils, on a voluntary basis, may also have an advisory role in decisions on placing requests by parents in respect of those situations where the number of placing requests for a particular school or for a particular stage in a school exceeds the number of places available.
The Head Teacher has a right and a duty to attend all meetings of the Parent Council. Meetings of the Parent Council are open to members of the public.
Nominations will be accepted from any parent whose name is on the school’s electoral register. If more than one nomination is received then an election will take place. Ballot papers, with the names of the candidates for election, will be sent out to each parent along with the necessary instructions for completing and returning it to the school. A count will then take place and the candidate with the most votes will then become a Council member. Nomination Forms and the Electoral Register are held in the School.
