Coursework Part 1
This started today and pupils are working on this by themselves. Remember that although programs may be initially similar each programmer has their own style. This will allow me to spot possible collaboration on the task. I am marking every coursework and will spot if the same code is used in more than one program.

A request from the gallery
Apparently my Christmas coursework posts were not detailed enough. So I “volunteered” to do a more “live” version. I have had to split this into sections, however, because of the speed of my computer (or rather its connection to the server) I have only got the 1st and 2nd parts done. I will complete the others from home the image below should explain my problem. (I need to wait for 3 hour while the software compiles 15 minutes of typing into a slide show)

99 days till the exam
Would you look at that! I have placed a count down timer on the blog. 99 days for 3 units, that’s 33 hours of revision per unit (assuming 1 hour per day). That’s enough time to read all the supplied notes at least once over and complete study notes from them, as well as doing many past papers, you’ll find these in the SQA publications section above.
In all seriousness, as I am sure you gathered from today’s assembly, the time has come to dig out the books and stop taking the extra hours in the part time jobs. You get one shot at 5th year higher exams and you don’t want to be resitting next year.
Make a study plan, there are plenty of tools to help you on the web and even some apps. Once you have the plan, stick to it.
Short Data Type
I would like to apologise to Katie, she was looking at the sequence of posts on the 2011 coursework and became confused with the “Short” data type. At the time I wrote the solution for the 2011 coursework we were using VB6, this uses the Integer data type to store whole numbers. When I created the articles in December, I opened up the original project using VB2008EE to capture the screen grabs. The import wizard unbeknownst to me had changed the data type to short. I should have noticed it but I missed it, sorry.
I’ll let the MS help do the explaining after the break.

Website Visitors
I set Google to track our blog visitors, I thought it was worth sharing the map with you as we are covering networks at the moment.
As you can see from the map above, our blog has attracted visitors not just from Scotland but from most of the continents (no tracking data for Antarctica). This goes to show how the Internet is truly global and even posts to a small school blog can get picked up anywhere. This will partly form our discussion for network implications next week.
