Scottish Gas – Apprenticeship Information

Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2016 will take place from 29th February to 4th March 2016 and Scottish Gas will be holding an open day at their Training Academy in Hamilton on Wednesday 2nd March, in support of the week’s activities.

The open day is for information only and is designed to give pupils an understanding of the skills that Scottish Gas Apprentices and Trainees acquire whilst working for Scottish Gas and also an insight into their assessment process and how to apply when they have vacancies available, no one will be applying for roles on the day. This is an opportunity to meet with Scottish Gas Apprentices and their Training Team to ask them any questions that pupils may have about Scottish Gas Apprenticeships and Traineeships, both of which are open to all. There are no age restrictions and the open days are available to attend for anyone that is aged 15 or above.

Places are limited and by invite only, so if you are interested and would like to spend a couple of hours with Scottish Gas, please email them with the following details:

Canon Edward Glackin (1934-2016)

Canon GlackinCanon Glackin, Parish Priest of St Columba’s, Viewpark, for over 30 years, passed away at the weekend after a short illness. Canon was a great supporter of the school during his time as parish priest at St Columba’s, always making himself available for confessions and mass and always more than prepared to visit classes and speak to pupils, which he did with such warmth and sincerity.  His love of all things Spanish was highlighted in the great service he gave to our Day of the Dead celebrations in school and his contribution to that over the last few years was immense. Although he was unable to take a leading role in the last celebrations he did manage to attend and took the opportunity to speak to our third years about his illness, his acceptance of death and the important role that his faith had in helping him approach his death. Sharing his thoughts and inspiration with the young people and telling them how lucky they were to have the gift of faith to face trials such as these was a very moving and touching experience.

The funeral arrangements will be finalised at some point this week, Fr Grant has intimated that it will take place either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Eternal Rest, grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him, may he rest in peace. Amen

S1 Interim Reports

Thank you to all parents who have timeously returned the tear off slip for the S1 Interim Reports.  The photographs show some of our pupils who received “Excellence Awards”excellence IMG_4300 for consistent high standards of behaviour, homework, effort and progress.  Well Done.

Careers Advice

Over the past two days all of S1 have been given advice on possible careers and help to identify their skills and talents.  Ruth Robertson of Skills Development Scotland presented information to the pupils, and played a variety of enjoyable and interesting interactive “Skills” games.  The results of one game surprisingly showed that many of our talented pupils should be ballet dancers!!!IMG_4295IMG_4298
