Weekly Updates

Week beginning 19.04

It was great to be back for Term 4 after a much needed holiday, we have had a busy week and have been producing some excellent work:

  • We were developing our tennis skills during P.E.
  • We learned about equivalent fractions and took our learning outdoors on an equivalent fraction scavenger hunt.
  • We learned about the phrases for weather in french.
  • We worked on some new spelling words.
  • We started a new class novel, The Boy at the Back of the Class.
  • We started our Learning through Football topic, this week we focused on the host cities for Euro 2020.
  • We created a description for a character and used ‘show, don’t tell’.
  • We played a Kahoot time quiz with Ms Kelso.
  • We learned how to find a fraction of a quantity.
  • Our PAThS kids were JH and JS.
  • We developed our talking and listening skills by playing ‘Would you rather…’ with Ms Kelso.
  • We developed our skills on keeping a beat in Music.
  • We did listening comprehension with Ms Kelso.
  • OUR PRIMARY 7’S RECEIVED THEIR LEAVERS HOODIES AND ARE WEARING THEM WITH PRIDE.

Week beginning 22.03

Another busy week in Primary 6/7:

  • We challenged ourselves to use similes, alliteration and descriptive language with a picture as a prompt.
  • We continued our work on Statistics and learned how to interpret different charts and graphs.
  • We discussed the importance of physical activity and made posters to encourage people to become physically active.
  • For outdoor learning, we learned about organising data and we used Venn and Carroll diagrams to do this.
  • We completed our group reading books and Mr. Anderson was pleased with our work.
  • We discussed our worries and completed a Worry bin task to share our worries with each other, we also found out that Mr. Anderson hates pigeons and seagulls!!
  • For writing, we learned all about persuasive writing techniques and how to use these. Mr. Anderson gave us the task of creating a persuasive advertising poster to make people want to buy an Aye-Aye.
  • The things we included were incentives, positive and exaggerated language, colourful and clear lettering, celebrity endorsements and rhetorical questions.
  • We learned about Mean, Median, Mode and Range. We understood this well but sometimes got mixed up when working on our own so we will keep working on it!
  • We started to look at ‘The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse’ as a HWB novel which has many powerful quotes in it.
  • We also learned about a Brazilian artist called Romero Britto and started to create some art work in his style.

Week beginning 15.03

We were delighted to be back in school this week and have hit the ground running with our learning:

  • We were learning about equations, even ones including brackets.
  • We have been working on Statistics, this included different types of graphs. We learned how to read and understand them and we then learned how to draw them.
  • We also went outdoors to display some of our statistics.
  • We also had great fun during outdoor learning on Wednesday when we worked on ‘Natural equations’ using grass, stones, sticks and leaves to make equations. We had to follow a key and each natural thing was given a value.
  • We learned so many facts all about our brain and created fact files.
  • We created an imaginative piece of writing using our VCOP skills, all about the theme of ‘Through the Wardrobe’.
  • We worked on our passing and shooting skills in netball.
  • We started new reading books and most of us impressed Mr. Anderson with the quality of our work.
  • We revised our Lockdown spelling words and had a spelling check up.
  • We also spoke about the reasons why physical activity is important and we will continue this next week.
  • We had some Red Nose Day activities on Friday.

Week beginning 14.12

It has been a very busy week getting ready for Christmas and getting on with our learning.

  • We were learning all about angles.
  • We learned how identify angles, how to name angles, how to measure angles and how to draw angles!! It was a lot of work!
  • We personalised our Christmas Fayre products and adding the finishing touches.
  • We finished our non-fiction reading books and completed some tasks to show our understanding of what we read.
  • We also completed reading assessments this week and we all achieved a result of over 70% – Mr. Anderson is impressed!
  • We worked on our netball skills and played some small games to work on our passing, shooting and movement skills.
  • We learned about D-Day and VE Day to end our focus on WW2.
  • We also completed an end of term 2 spelling test.
  • Thursday was Panto Day, we watched Cinderella!

Week beginning 07.12

  • On Monday, we worked on a time task with Ms Kelso. We had to plan a journey using timetables.
  • We worked on non-fiction texts for Reading this week, we learned about the different types of layout and presentation of non-fiction and how this helps us to read it.
  • We also had our Christmas Party. We had a great time and Jayden was our best dancer!!
  • The green and yellow maths groups learned all about foreign exchange in money and we loved the challenge!
  • All maths groups completed Money Assessments to show just how much we have learnt.
  • For topic, we researched some famous people from WW2 and took on notes on their life and the impact they had in the war.
  • We used our notes on WW2 people to write biographies about them!
  • We continued to read the Christmasaurus and learned about what the north pole is like.
  • We made our Christmas Fayre products and just need to personalise them next week!
  • We got into the Christmas spirit with our Christmas lunch and Christmas Jumper Day!

Week beginning 30.11

It has been a very busy week in Primary 6/7.

  • We continued to work on French numbers, we played French Bingo!
  • We created a blog page to advertise our Christmas Fayre Products.
  • We made new targets for our learning.
  • We read the Christmasaurus and picked out exciting language.
  • We worked on budgeting. We planned our spending for Christmas presents and for the Playground.
  • We practice our throwing and catching skills and played some games.
  • We also worked on our fitness this week.
  • We worked on our rhythm and concentration during Music. Mr. Anderson taught us this week which was interesting!!
  • We designed our own Christmas Cards.
  • We played Hit The Button to work on our times tables.
  • We learned about weapons used during WW2.
  • We continued to work on Mental Maths.
  • We watched a clip and developed our questioning skills. We made different levels of questions.
  • We finished our Reading books.
  • We completed our writing baseline, the title was The Winter Adventure.
  • We caught up on some of the current news by watching Newsround.
  • We used our bonus 15 minutes to play outside.
  • Primary 7s worked on Hire Purchase in maths.
  • Primary 6s learned about bank accounts and bank statements.

Week beginning 23.11

After having the Monday holiday, we had another 4 day week this week.

  • We were learning about Propaganda.
  • We then created our own Propaganda.
  • We developed our netball skills (passing, movement and shooting)
  • We learned about Debit cards and Credit cards.
  • We also learned about Profit and Loss.
  • We wrote about this during Outdoor learning.
  • We completed an extra long spelling test.
  • We started reading The Christmasaurus.
  • We predicted what the book would be about and what we thought the cover was.
  • We also visualised what the character’s room would be like.
  • We recapped Alphabetical order.
  • We also started reading our new Group Reading book.
  • We wrote fantastic imaginative stories all about Adventures are the pits!

Week Beginning 16.11

It was a 4 day week this week!!

  • We had a chat about what Christmas craft we would work on this year.
  • We were developing our dribbling, passing and shooting skills in P.E., we linked these skills to football and basketball.
  • We created and described our own characters in writing.
  • We tried out some new mental maths and did really well.
  • We researched different battles in WW2 and created information posters about them.
  • We were learning to compare costs from different retailers in Numeracy.
  • We were learning how to calculate discounts.
  • We were continuing to use P.E.E. to answer reading questions.
  • We created our own Book to celebrate Book Week Scotland.
  • We chose our new reading books which we will start next week.
  • Primary 7s worked hard on their SNSA’s.
  • We learned about WW2 music with Mrs McDougall.

Week Beginning 09.11

This week we have been working hard again.

  • We learned all about The Blitz and we have displayed our learning in the classroom.
  • We started our Numeracy topic of Money.
  • We have been completing Money word problems.
  • We completed our information books about Rationing and have these up on our WW2 display.
  • In P.E., we were working hard on our fitness.
  • This involved doing the Beep test.
  • We used our Dinner Hall reward this week to play outside.
  • We created our own ‘… evacuees on the move.’ poems.
  • We continued working on a range of comprehension skills whilst reading our group reading books.
  • We completed a Team Building activity to work on our communication and teamwork.
  • Our PATHs kid for this week was Lewis.

Week beginning 02.11

It has been a busy week in Primary 6/7.

  • We were continuing our work on factors and learning all about Prime Numbers.
  • We created amazing Bonfire Night acrostic poems.
  • We learned all about Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes, and completed a reading task based on these topics.
  • We learned about rationing during WW2.
  • Our Active Schools Coordinator Gary Moore visited us and took us for a HIIT session.
  • We learned all about dyslexia for Dyslexia Awareness Week and created information posters to share our learning.
  • We played spelling tennis to help us learn our words.
  • We went on a shape hunt around the playground and drew 3D shapes for Outdoor Classroom Day.
  • We were working on our Athletics skills, we took part in the long jump, triple jump, speed bounce, hurdles, target throwing, wall jump and sprints.
  • Cameron was out PATHs kid for this week!
  • We also took part in a Mental Maths Race to develop our mental maths agility.
