Home Economics

Hello All

Today I thought it might be helpful to share with you what we have been working on in Home Economics this year.  I have attached the visual schedules for these activities and hope that you will enjoy doing this together at home.

Term 1 – we made sandwiches, lots of different fillings and textures were explored.  Favourites included tuna mayonnaise, cheese savoury, grated cheese and ham and egg mayonnaise.

Term 2 – We made muffins – basic muffins, cheese muffins, banana muffins and blueberry to name but a few.  Below are the links to a few of the recipes we used.

Term 3 – Making jelly – this is another lovely sensory activity, try adding frozen raspberries, tinned mandarins or chop up some strawberries and add to your jelly.

Please remember we would love to see photos of your Home Economics activities from home, so please do share them on the blog, have fun and enjoy.  Ensure that your learners help with all aspects from preparation to washing up lol.

These are the visual schedules you will need:

Wednesday 25th March

Hello everybody, I hope you are all well! My plan for the foreseeable future is to post ideas that you can try at home. If you feel an idea doesn’t suit, then please don’t feel pressured to do it. These are just suggestions 🙂

As Caroline said, we are here to help with any questions or concerns. Even though circumstances have changed, it is still an ‘open door’ policy where you can email any time.

My email is gw14coialaura@glow.sch.uk

Playing about with technology today, so here’s hoping this works!

Take care everybody,

Laura

Morning Folk

I hope we all survived our first day of home schooling, not to mention struggling to keep the cupboards stocked and kids exercised.  I posted yesterday about grouptime and have attached today some useful resources.  These can be used as a cut and paste exercise, to order days of the week or as a matching activity.  You may wish to laminte them (if possible) that way you can re-use them throughout this time.

Makaton signing

Hello to all pupils and families,

Some of our parents in Skye class asked for Makaton signs. We created a video for all to learn and practice the most frequent signs that we may use in class and school.😊

I thought it might be helpful to give you an idea of the types of activities Lewis Class do throughout the week and should you wish to dip in/out of the activities or to follow in a more structures way.

As I work Monday to Wednesday I will be able to give you information and advice on these days and Mrs Coia will be able to advice on the second half of the week.

Fit 15

This will help to regulate the children’s sense and help to settle them to an activity. The following songs are familiar to the pupils and are all found on you tube.

Snack

Lots of life skills – pupils choose /collect own cutlery and plates / spreading, cutting / washing up.

Activity Trays

Please contact me for individual activities and pupils activity tray targets for this term and I can provide more information.

Literacy

Our focus for literacy this term was exploring books in all forms i.e. sensory stories, listening to a story being read, choosing your own book and enjoying the pictures or reading the text. I will attach some eBooks which you can read at home on the laptop with your child. Please just ask if you want more specific ideas for your child on how you might use the resource.

If CMcC, KF and RBs mum want to email me I can provide you with login details for the  Active Learn website were the pupils will have further access to online reading books and phonics which I have allocated to them.

Happy Learning

Haysholm Superstars

What a fantastic morning we had celebrating the achievements of our children and young people.  They truly are ‘Superstars’.  Not only did everyone do great receiving their certificate, the class performances were amazing.  Based on the theme of ‘Singing Hands’, we had singers, signers, dancers and musicians.  Thank you to everyone who turned out to support us.

Education Scotland Visit

Education Scotland inspectors will be visiting our school week the beginning 15th of April.  They wish to gather views of our parents/carers, therefore we would very much appreciate if you can complete the online survey, link below

Please have your say as we wish to continue to improve our school to ensure that your child receives the best possible education.
