Arran Outing and Rehersals

Arran class visited Hansel Village Thursday 21st January, we had a lovely morning all together, DL took everyone’s order. DL also helped to collect snacks and pay for our drinks and snacks. We also visited the party shop in Kilmarnock where the pupils helped to choose a 40th candle for our Birthday celebrations next week.

Our rehearsals are well on their way for our Special day next week Tuesday 26 th January at St Mary’s Church .

Welcome Back

We look forward to welcoming your child back to school on Tuesday 18th August.  As you know today (Monday 17th) has been an in-service day.  The focus for learning has been Child Protection and GIRFEC.  We have been evaluating Wellbeing and how what we are currently doing to ensure all of our children and young people at Haysholm are: Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, Achieving, Respected, Responsible and Included.  By carrying this out today, we aim to have an improved knowledge of and confidence in the GIRFEC approach to improve outcomes for our children and young people.

Parent Learning Event Reminder

intensive interaction

This is a reminder that our next parent Learning event will take place on Tuesday 26th May at 10 am to 11 am in the pink room of Haysholm School.  The training session will be delivered by Mrs Susan Rose, Early Year’s practitioner in Skye class.

Intensive interaction is an approach to teaching the pre-speech fundamentals of communication to children and adults who have severe learning difficulties and/or autism and who are still at an early stage of communication development.  It is an approach that we have successfully used to engage with and develop communication skills in a number of our young people.

We hope you can attend

Arran Class Term 4

This is going to be a very busy term for the pupils in Arran class. We started off the term with a special memorial day for Craig Collins (we sadly lost Craig earlier in the year).

The pupils have visited Country Baskets in Glasgow to purchase goods for our enterprise items which we will sell at the Summer Garden Party (Tuesday 2nd June at Haysholm school).

We are currently developing our creativity in art classes at Irvine Royal Academy, where we have had the opportunity to use and explore different textures and materials. We have been working with clay over the last few weeks creating wonderful boats, which will be exhibited at the Maritime Museum’s Puffers cafe (details to follow).

At the moment the pupils are enjoying weekly Drake Music sessions with Ron. This is proving to be very enjoyable with the pupils and is allowing each individual pupil to interact depending on their choice and ability.

This is health week and there are many activities planned to encourage the pupils to make good choices about what they eat and encourage the pupils to exercise and keep fit.

Thursday mornings are spent building co-ordination, strength and stamina at All Ability  Cycles in Kilmarnock, this is great fun for everyone (even the staff).

Arran class continue to be enthusiastic about our weekly Healthy Tuck shop, which we have every Friday (50p). The pupils work hard, they plan the shopping for goods to sell, they buy the shopping, they set up the tuck shop, tidy up afterwards and keep a record of the profit/loss made at the tuck shop. Every child has a job for which they are responsible.

Keep updated with Arran class blog, lots more planned for the upcoming weeks.
