To our parents
Learning packs have now been sent out to pupils.
We have worked hard to provide materials which will encourage revision and consolidation of learning and also some materials which may push them further and take them a little out of their comfort zone. That’s when we learn best! We are fully aware of what happens when children “down tools” over the summer holiday so it’s important that you help them organise a “learning routine” from the outset.
It is important pupils complete as much literacy and numeracy learning as is possible. Daily writing has been requested by all Class Teachers. We would suggest focussed learning or revision takes place first thing in the morning with a mid-morning break. This could then be followed by another learning/revision session prior to lunch. Thereafter you can decide whether or not to take a longer break in the afternoon before commencing another short set of learning tasks/learning activities including learning through play. Keeping to this plan will support your child and prepare them more fully for their return to school.
You may already be aware of our learning blog with videos to help parents support their child’s learning. Throughout this period we will be adding to these so please let us know about any approaches/tips you would like to know more about! Our learning blog is accessible through our school website or simply Google “Moorfoot Primary Learning Blog”. At the moment we are working on producing a video targeting addition with carrying and subtraction with exchanging/decomposition.
At the moment we are unaware as to how long schools will be closed but as a staff we have been experimenting recently with “GLOW Teams” and have made instructional videos showing parents how to access. They will be uploaded to our school blog and also tweeted over the coming weeks if necessary. Teams will allow your child and their peers to “chat online” with their teacher. New learning tasks can be set and feedback given.
What an event filled term this has been. We would like to thank you all for your continued support, care and appreciation. Our Moorfoot children make this job an absolute pleasure. We will miss you during the impending school closure and look forward to seeing everyone again when things return to normal.
Please do not hesitate in getting in touch through the normal channels.
Take care everyone.
Mrs Irvine
