Recently myself and my classmates have been learning all about global warming . We have been learning about the three  main  gases in the Earth’s atmosphere and how they work together to heat the Earth up to a comfortable temperature.  However, because pollution is getting worse  the Sun is getting bigger, subsequently the Earth is getting warmer.

This is a key issue in the world at the moment and I feel we need to find out about it, how it is happening  and how we can stop Global Warming . Click here to view a very inspiring  but very important video about what nature is truly about.

This topic has been very important to me, it has made me realise I need to look after the planet now so that we can live in a better world in the future.

We have been learning about Global Warming through websites such us the WWF (which taught us about the species that are endangered  due to Global warming and how it is effecting them). I chose to research the Bald Eagle as I have always been interested in birds and hadn’t realised it was an endangered species. Our class felt so passionately about our chosen species that we decided to put together an informative display for the rest of the school. My piece of art was accompanied by some information about the Bald Eagle.

I feel this topic went very successful, everybody learnt something valuable that they can use to help save the planet in a variety of different ways; such as campaigning or simply just putting rubbish in the correct bin, they all make a difference.

My next steps are to continue to learn about Global Warming  and its effects on the planet and how we can stop it and make the world a better place to live in.

Entering the hall I strode. What I was used to seeing, a typical everyday school canteen, had had a major makeover! Artwork on the walls, homemade thistles in vases and everyone looking so smart! As soon as I walked in, I knew this night would be a blast!

Clapping hands, smiling faces, everyone was happy! Mr Trotter piped in the top table. I was at a table with Mrs Falconer, Mrs MacLean, Grace, Alexander, Kyle, Mrs Robertson, Peters gran and Ruairidh’s mum. We were chatting about the ‘Oor Wullie’ table mats and going to secondary school. Then the haggis came along. We all fell silent….

Jamie Lee carried in the haggis with the piper, Elizabeth and Ross. During the recitation on the poem, When Elizabeth cut the haggis, she missed it and accidentally nudged the quaiche and didn’t manage to pierce it. Luckily, she didn’t get too embarrassed and laughed with everyone else! I’m not too keen on haggis, but Jill has super cooking skills and managed to make it taste delicious! Whilst I was eating my dinner, I ‘overheard’ the deepest, DARKEST secrets of Mrs Falconer……………. Just kidding! We all know Mrs Falconer doesn’t have any secrets! Or does she?

I participated in 2 poems, I felt a little nervous as there were around 90 people in the hall! When I heard the hosts Molly and Conor call ‘Address To A Toothache.’ A cold shiver trickled down my spine. Once I got up there, I wasn’t nervous at all! It felt like I was the only person in the room! I’m very surprised I didn’t get flustered! In the end, I’m really happy I volunteered to learn a poem!

I really appreciate that Mrs Falconer used her spare time to help us practise and learn our poems. Thankfully, Mrs MacLean helped us make artwork for around the hall and the table centrepieces. Also, I’m glad Mrs Hunter accompanied us for ‘ Ye Banks And Braes’  and ‘A Red Red Rose.’ I’m really pleased as I got to give flowers to Mrs MacLean and Jenna’s gran for making tablet.

Over all, Wednesday night was amazing! Although I’ve never been to a Burns Supper before,  I think ours was the best ever hosted!

My Dream Job as a Makeup Artist

Recently, Primary 6 have had a World of work week. We had a speed networking morning. In total 14 people arrived. A fireman, Housing Officer, Studio Flowers and loads more! Parents came into the class and did a presentation about their career. Everyone we spoke to were committed and dedicated to their jobs.

When I grow up I’d like to be a Theatrical Makeup Artist as I am very creative and have an artistic flare. I’ve loved drawing since I was 5 and I still do! To be a Makeup artist, the skills and qualities you need are creativity, motivation, time-keeping, communication skills, a tactful manner and much more. The courses you do are, Special FX, Theatrical, Media and photography. It’s great that there’s a photography course as I also have an interest in photography too.

The tools and equipment you need to make fake, realistic stitches are, liquid latex, black thread, a blunt needle, a tissue, foundation, red, white, brown and black face/body paint and fake blood. Pour liquid latex on your finger and apply to skin in a rounded rectangular shape. Before dry, add a layer of tissue in the right shape and then add another layer of liquid latex. Once dry, blend it into your skin with foundation and your finger. With the front of your nail make a deep line in the middle and push out the edges to make it look like a cut. Next, thread a blunt needle through the latex like a normal stitch. Finally, add paint and fake blood to finish.

The qualifications you need to be a makeup artist are 5 National 3,4 or 5’s including Maths, English and Science plus 3 higher grades to do a degree in Media makeup.

The work experience while studying could be, amateur theatre, student film, theatre and photography projects, charity or student fashion shows and working with established makeup artists and photographers.

Theatrical makeup artistry is a very well paid job! If you worked a 10 hour day, 5 days a week you’d get £1,000 a week! (which is £200 a day )

What’s the point in a job anyway? You need a job to pay for food, bills, tax and more. It’s best to choose a job that you’ll enjoy as you will be stuck with it until you’re 60!

I will try my best in school and University to become a makeup artist as it’s a great interest of mine.

Recently our class have hosted a World of Work Week event to got us thinking about our future careers and inspire us to choose a job we would be interested in taking on. The week was very successful and due to this we all have a good idea of what we want to be when we are older. For my job I would like to be a Media Makeup-Artist.

This would involve travelling around different countries and applying makeup to celebrities, performers and other clients. In addition to this, I wold get to work with makeup, as well as getting to do something I enjoy as a job and meet new people

I would be interested in this field of work because I would get the opportunity to travel around the world, meet new people and do something I enjoy. To be able to get this career, I will have to train at college and take a course in Media Makeup then get some practical experience by assisting a professional. To complete tasks, I will have to have a variety of skills and qualities, for instance; to be creative, have confidence, possess good communication skills, have patience and concentration, be tolerant, use teamwork skills and be able to work well under pressure.

Therefore I think that this career is perfect for me and when I’m older this job will be a good choice. I had lots of fun at World of Work week and I have learned loads about not just my chosen career but others too.
