In our school, we are developing our skills for learning, life and work.
Of all the things you are learning, what do you think will be the most useful when you are an adult?

We learn so many things in school that will prepare us for being adults.
It is important to learn the essential maths and language skills as we will need them for everyday things such as reading/ writing and maths for bills when we get older.
These are important but I think the other skills such as being a confident individual, responsible citizen etc will prepare us for interviews, starting a new job, meeting new people and when we move away from home.
I think maths is important because when you move out from home you are responsible for your own money. You will have to be careful with spendings to make sure that you can pay your bills and mortgage. Saving money is important as well so you will have money in case of emergencies and purchase expensive items and so you can go on holiday.
Another important skill I am learning it to how to build a good relationship or friendship. I am learning to respect other people and their opinions. As I am in the friendship group that is teaching me even more!
All the things we are learning at school and at play will help us when we grow up, even things from P1. Working in groups is good because it teaches us to work together and solve things and be tolerant with other people ideas and sometimes we can help somebody else or someone could help me. An idea can get better if there are a few people thinking about it.
Faith, thank you for a fantastic post! It is clear that you have put a lot of thought into your response. I particularly like your point about learning to work with others and be tolerant. As you know, our group responsibilities have proven just how successful putting heads together can be – there has been some fantastic work and results from all your hard work as a team!
Learning to read and learning to count are important as we will need to do this for ourselves when we grow up. Learning to make friends and stay friends is very important too.
I think that everything we learn in school is important but maths language and writing are all essentials but PE is quite important because we need to be fit and healthy
When I’m older I use maths to budget for bills and also if I get a job in a bank I will need to make sure my maths is correct when I’m dealing with other peoples money.I do plan to travel when I’m older so with the different languages I’m learning in school, this will help me on my travels.
Everything we learn helps us, but in my opinion I think maths will help us. Co-ordinates will help us read maps and might help us read a satnav to assist people in cars and we have been learning about decimals and fractions and that will help me with money and other useful things.
I think maths (decimals) will help me in the future because I will have my own money and will need to know how to use decimals.
I think lots of things we are learning about are important for the future, like reading, writing, maths, P.E and art.
However, I think working in groups will be important for when we are an adult because it boosts your confidence and lets you get to know other people’s opinions. This subject will help you when you’re getting interviewed for a job and for meetings etc. I really enjoy our talking and listening groups too.
Thank you for your detailed post Emily. I’m glad you are enjoying our talking and listening groups. Some of the discussions have been fantastic, lots of great input from you and your classmates!
The thing that will help me when I am an adult is typing on a computer because if I am designing an invention of mine, I would need to learn how to type and use the computer.
Everything we learn in and out of school is important for later life. I think maths is an essential in life for using money and lots of other things like measurment. Literacy is also needed. Imagine not being able to read and write. We use literacy for reading a letter or bill, writing an email or even just reading a book for our own entertainment.
We also need to be able to communicate well to others. Having a group discussion can help us learn this. We need this when meeting new people or talking to a colleague or manager.
If we didn’t go to school we wouldn’t be able to do all this!!!
