Equalities

Glasgow Educational Psychology Service (GEPS) aims to be an inclusive service which recognises the potential, talents and contribution of all people regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, sex, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership and pregnancy and maternity (and paternity).

We’re committed to creating an environment in which everybody, irrespective of their sexual orientation and/or trans or gender status, feel welcomed and valued, and in which discriminatory behaviour and harassment isn’t tolerated.

Working in Glasgow

Glasgow is Scotland’s largest and most diverse metropolitan area. Although outcomes are generally improving for residents, they are not improving fast enough for the poorest and most disadvantaged people in the city, nor for those who face specific barriers and disadvantage because of their age, disability, gender identity, race, religion, beliefs, sex, or sexual orientation. Glasgow Psychological services is involved in research and development work in a number of these areas with the aim of improving outcomes for children and young people and their families.

More information on the equality act and protected characteristics can be found on the Scottish Government website:

Race Equalities

Glasgow’s highly diverse population provides in itself a clear rationale for why GPS should continue to consider how best to continue to deliver a relevant and equitable service. More widely, Glasgow City Council are invested in understanding the city’s colonial history and have stated a commitment to “start a conversation” with the Glasgow community about how best to make progress in the City. GEPS are embarking on a journey of self-reflection, research and staff development across psychological services with the aim of improving outcomes across the black and minority ethnic population.

LBGT Equalities

GPS has achieved the Bronze LGBT charter mark and are currently working towards silver status. This programme was developed to support organisations to undertake training and review policies, practice and resources to make sure that they are not only meeting legislative needs but are as inclusive as they can be. Glasgow Psychological Services supports LGBT equality and stands against transphobia, homophobia and biphobia.

LGBT young people in schools

In 2020 GPS carried out research around the lived experiences of LGBT Young people in Glasgow schools. This was in response to the School Report 2017 where it was reported that 50% of LGB and 71% of trans young people in Scotland’s schools are bullied. Results and recommendations  can be viewed in the video below:
