Newark Primary School Film

Newark feature the steering group which helps support and direct the schools Rights Based Learning approach. They describe and demonstrate some of the global charity work they are becoming involved with to help develop understanding and support CRC in the wider context. They also discuss the Cluster based approach they have to supporting and developing the knowledge of rights and the difference they feel Rights Based Learning makes to their educational community.

Pupil voice and the right to be listened to are demonstrated as the school start on their journey to inform their community about the CRC. The public speaking competition features several of the articles from the CRC and pupils describe them in a knowledgeable and informative way. Staff describe some of the ways they have supported pupil learning and understanding of their rights from lower to upper school.

Rights Based Learning has helped Kilbowie to develop and sustain the good practice and ethos already present in the school. Pupil voice is very important and when pupils discovered that not all children in the world receive their rights they wrote to the Prime Minister to get something done.  Pupils demonstrate how rights are met within all areas of school life and illustrate some approaches through the right to play.

At Craighead Primary School pupils discuss the ways in which they have helped develop Convention of the Rights of the Child in the wider community. They outline the work they do to inform others about Fairtrade and global issues. They are encouraged to have their right to be listened to by participating in school committees that create choices for their school community.

They outline one of the ways in which they get pupils to contribute to the life of the school and community showing their right to be listened to.

The initial journey and why they got involved is described by staff and is an encouraging message for other schools wanting to develop their Rights Based Learning.
