The role of School Captain is a high-profile and prestigious one amongst the senior student body, and they perform a range of important functions through the academic session.
Duties and responsibilities of being a school captain include:
- Being a consistently positive role model in the school community;
- Representing St Thomas Aquinas Secondary at public events;
- Attending and helping to organise whole-school events such as the awards ceremony, charity events, parents nights and information evenings;
- Organise duties of key S6 prefect teams such as the Prom and Year Book committees;
- Contribute to promoting links with the local community and charitable organisations.
Our school captains possess skills and personal qualities that enable them to effectively carry out the duties of the post in an effective manner. The captains demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. The captains plan ahead and direct the work of prefects, ensuring that important project objectives are achieved on time.
We expect our captains to be inspirational to other students with a clear commitment to the ethos and values of St Thomas Aquinas Secondary. The captains have to lead by example with energy, enthusiasm and a visible pride in our school.
The school captains will gain significant experience throughout their S6 year – working with staff, leading their peers and representing the school at external events. It is a post which challenges them to show initiative, achieve goals, and become more confident in how they communicate and interact with people.
