GenAI in QS Assessments

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to provide you with some important information regarding Qualifications Scotland assessments and the expectations placed on our young people as they prepare for their National Qualifications.

On 19th October, pupils attended a presentation on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), which outlined the rules, regulations and expectations set out by Qualifications Scotland in relation to coursework, assignments, interim assessments and final examinations. The presentation also highlighted the importance of academic integrity, including plagiarism, collusion and the appropriate use of AI when completing assessed work.

As part of our preparations for the forthcoming interim assessments, pupils will be provided with detailed guidance outlining the expectations and procedures they must follow, along with the interim assessment timetable. The interim assessments will take place from Tuesday 1st December to Thursday 17th December 2026.

Pupils will also be asked to read and sign the St Thomas Aquinas – Qualifications Scotland Declaration, confirming that they understand and agree to follow the rules, regulations and expectations set out by Qualifications Scotland. This is an important part of ensuring that all young people are fully aware of their responsibilities and the importance of completing assessments fairly and independently.

We would appreciate your support in discussing these expectations with your child and encouraging them to approach their assessments with a positive attitude, ensuring that they are well prepared and understand the importance of following the relevant guidelines.

I would also like to take this opportunity to inform you that I have taken over the role of Qualifications Coordinator at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School and will be responsible for overseeing the coordination and administration of Qualifications Scotland assessments and examinations.

Should you have any questions, queries or concerns regarding Qualifications Scotland, the forthcoming interim assessments or any aspect of the assessment process, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure that all our young people are fully prepared, supported and given every opportunity to achieve their potential.

Kind regards,

Mr Young
