It is important for dyslexic learners to engage in frequent over learning activities which follow a structure.
Activities should be short, varied and multi-sensory.
Care should be taken to ensure that instructions are clear and accessible and that independent tasks are achievable.
The resources and activities below have been developed with this in mind to help provide dyslexic learners with suitable home learning.
Glasgow Dyslexic Support Service Resources
Getting Started
Information and resources for Getting Started, the GDSS cumulative and structured phonic programme can be found on the Glow Blog: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/gc/dyslexiagccgdss/phonics/phoneme-grapheme-links/

Phonics Overlearning
Overlearning resources at a consonant blend and digraph level can be found on the Blog: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/gc/dyslexiagccgdss/phonics/digraphs/
These resources are suitable for learners who are secure with all their letter/sound links and although able to blend readily, require a high level of overlearning and revision. Ideas for home learning re consonant digraphs can be found on the website: http://www.gdss.glasgow.sch.uk/PlainText/PlainText.aspx?SectionId=eb5e1d9a-a572-441a-9146-ddeb13101af3
Resources to support consonant blends and learning at long vowel stage at home are coming soon so don’t forget to keep checking the website.
Phonological Awareness
It is important for all learners to develop this, but perhaps of particular concern are the learners in the early stages who are still developing these essential phonological awareness skills. Information for teachers and ideas for developing phonological awareness are available on the blog
https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/gc/dyslexiagccgdss/phonological-awareness/
Please also refer to the website which has activities for home learning. http://www.gdss.glasgow.sch.uk/PlainText/PlainText.aspx?SectionId=8c723bf8-fddc-4f70-93c0-9e72b301c5af
Reading
Dyslexic learners might still be in the early stages of reading and struggle to do it independently. It is important that they are still provided with the opportunity to enjoy the written word. An ideal situation is where they are regularly listening to stories being read to them by someone else. Alternatively, they can enjoy listening to a story through talking books and websites where each story is being read. There are examples of these on the website.
It is still important for dyslexic learners to continue to practise reading independently. Bear in mind the five finger rule.
